Im no expert, but Id say that a 200 just isnt enough engine, although its within the rating of the boat. I would think it would also cut back on resale of your rig, should you decide to ever get a newer boat. I would seriously doubt youd ever see 70mph with it, but I guess you could if you were running a very light load. I had a 225 on my 06CougarFTD and wish I had gone to a 250. I am giving serious thought to purchasing a new 09CougarFTD and I plan to have a 250 on it. It is a fine set up. Not an overwhelming performance rig, though fuel efficiency should be a little better than a 225 or larger. The performance will be in the upper 60s to low 70 mark, depending on the loads. We think it will make a fine rig for a keeper. We do not suggest it for a short term purchase or potential upgrade in the near future. Resale will be a factor, though you should pay in the $3,000 to $4,500 less range for the rig up front. Plus the engines in 200 all have the cubic inches to pull them out of the hole today. This is a very nice topic for those folks in use them and non tournament category. This will be a very nice rig if the value savings on the deal is signficant. If you are ok with going upper 60s low 70s like most other 19 footers with 200s will do, then you have a good setup. Youre actually getting alot more boat than youd get with a 19 footer. This is all based on IF IF IF you are happy with those speeds and plan to keep this rig for a good long time. If so, youll have the best 20 footer on the water with a v6 that will push it great cruising 45-70mph in supreme comfort.
