2013 Bassmaster Opens – entry fees rise, prizes fall
I just noticed that the entry fee for the Open tournaments has gone up from last year, and the winning payout value has come down substantially for both anglers and co-anglers. Anyone have any thoughts about whats driving this? Is BASS having trouble funding the Open payouts or are the tournament boat sponsors having trouble offering the prize packages they did last year, or is there some other motivation at work? I remember hearing last Fall that FLW/Everstart was cutting back payouts and even eliminating the FLW Opens for 2013, so maybe this is just an economic reality for tournament fishing right now, but it would seem like an ideal time for BASS to stand out by not cutting their payouts or raising fees and thereby enjoy the increased entries from FLW competitors looking for new events to fish. Seems like an opportunity is being missed there unless BASS is really having trouble making the Opens work.Just wondering,ScottLast edited by Scott Crumpler on January 11th, 2013, 12:43 pm, edited 3 times in total.
Just an effort to make these organizations profitable in those segments we suspect. It was discussed here several months ago when it became publi and you can dig through those few comments. It was not a very popular topic in any respect.
