Im stumped! On the hole shot when the bow comes over the top it blows the prop out and revs the engine to 6000+ for about a second then it catches hold and pulls the motor down pretty hard. I have no plugs in the prop and am at 1/8″ below flush on the jack plate. It pulls kind of sluggishly (not a lot of zip) out to about 5626 rpm at 76.1mph. I was at Ray Roberts lake with Coby Buchanon, he was in his Couger with a Mercury 250 Pro XS 27 pitch Bravo 1 XS. His Couger flat out spanked me in every way possible, he just smoked me out of the hole and when mine was busy blowing out he just launched and through the mid range he just kept on pulling on me miserably. Then I got in his Couger and took off, boy it was night and day how his engine reacted and performed compared to mine. You would swear mine was a 200 compared to his. He took off in mine and he was amazed at how sluggish it was. I have 5.1 hours on mine so I dont know if the ECU is programmed to be in a retarded state for the first hours of break in. Can someone please shed some light on that issue. We put his 28 Bravo 1 XS on mine raised it 5/8″ and it was much the same except less mph and a few more rpms. We raised it up 1/4″ and it was worse than before. Until I find out what is causing the sluggish engine performance I will not be able get this rig to perform to its potential. Thanks! Slip that thing down to Rockwall Marine and let the guys look it over.
I have the same issue out of mine. I have 4 hrs on mine. Mine is a puma ftd though. Im gonna slap someplugs in the prop to see if that will help the blow out but mine is identicle as you have stated.
If its slipping then plugs will help.
I will get some plugs and test them before I do anything else. Im going to go on a tangent here for a minute, this has absolutely nothing to do with BassCat. They have bent over backwards to help me with any problem I have ever had with my BCBs. I have raced sprint cars for over ten years and I built my own engines. If I had an engine that wasnt up to snuff, the last thing I was going to do or say was well you might have to live with it, some perform and some dont. WRONG ANSWER!!! I was neck deep in that thing until I found what was robbing me of the performance I demanded out of it. I would not let a manufacturer tell me, well some are going to run like they should and some arent going to be a performer its the luck of the draw and you will have to accept it. And when Im TOLD I might have to accept a piss poor performer and deal with it, I get a bit upset. Like I said before I didnt buy an Eyra with a 250 so that I could accept mediocrity, and I cant believe for the life of me why a dealer would take this attitude. I take a lot of pride in how my equipment performs and somebody else had best find the pride and the humility to accept I have a problem and not try to treat me like an idiot that doesnt know what performance is.BrianBrianHAWG Hunter2013 BassCat Eyra2013 Mercury 250 Pro XS Gen2 L/U
Over on Bassboatcentral.com there has been some discussions on performance issues with the 2013 Mercs 250 proxs motors. Some were claiming one in three motors, all with the new lower unit. I saw a discussion in the legend forum there on bbc, I dont know if anyone had got to the bottom of it yet or not. Im sure someone will figure out what the issue is and how to fix it.
Ahh! The vent is done and soap box climbed off of and now lets get to the details. The newer gearcases have a bit more performance than the other style, though some are slipping on certain hulls on the lower end. Any performance differences are said to be almost unnoticable and the case recovers those. Hole shot venting issues are set up, not the engine or the boat. Lets get the vents in the propeller and start working our way through to the end of this. First lets vent it, and also lets check engine height. From there we start working on other details if this is not able to achieve expected results. BCB
Thank you BCB that is my intention. I need to find a set of those things and get back out there and continue to log hours on this thing. As it is it only has a 4% slip rate so if I could build the rpms faster throughout the mid range and carry it out to 6000 it would be a rocket ship. The engine is set from BCB at 1/8″ below flush on the plate. By dropping it farther I will hurt my rpms correct?BrianBrianHAWG Hunter2013 BassCat Eyra2013 Mercury 250 Pro XS Gen2 L/U
Yes, RPMs will go down if you take the engine down more. Though venting will decrease also.
Will the motor loosen up some with more break-in and turn more rpms (Maybe after the double oiling is complete)? How about putting on a prop that is easier to turn (25 Trophy) and seeing how many rpms it will spin? Maybe a dyno check to see if it maybe a throttle linkage issue???? If it will run as good as it looks, Brian should be breaking 90 soon. Most eye catching boat I have ever seen.
