225 pxs vs 250 pxs fuel mileage

I think some of you with smart craft gauges should be able answer this question. What is the difference in fuel consumption between a 225 pro xs verses a 250 pro xs on a Puma. I know at WOT a 250 will use more, but what mid range speeds? At what speed and rpm does each motor get its best mpg or gph? I would like real world numbers. MPG would be best but I can convert speed and gph into mpg if need be. I would think a 250 would do better because it would not have to work as hard. Also, looks like most Pumas with 225 pro xss use 26 Trophys, and some 250 pro xss. How will a Puma with a 250 pro xs perform with a 27 pitch. Thanks.

I cant speak to the difference between the two, but my 250 Pro XS is the first Pro XS engine I have run and the fuel economy is surprising compared to any other engine I have owned. Did I mention it is FAST, FUN AND AWESOME to drive, too???????!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

I cant believe the exact number and I know that is what you are wanting but my 07 Puma w/ 250ProXS was within .1 to Rodneys (guy who bought my 07 and lent me his 06 while my new one was being built) 06 w/ 225ProXs on the SmartCraft gauge from each other. So there is a difference in the way they run but gas isnt that much difference I dont think. Good luck…like AJ said they are FAST and fun! Judd Lasiter

It can be worked out…just sign on the dotted line I didnt tell you that their are a lot of Puma 250s w/ 27 Trophys out there. I ran a 27 Tempest on mine and it ran good. Sorry, I forgot that piece. Judd

What you want are the GPH numbers on both engines. Gallons Per Hour, and they should most have those on their SC gauges. Our data showed 21 to 22.5 GPH on top end. BCBLast edited by Bass Cat Boats on October 23rd, 2007, 1:31 am, edited 1 time in total.

AJ talking like a true realtor. I never have bought a house and spent what I wanted to, I spend always more I have 8 hours even on my boat right now and I have burnt 54.8 gallons of fuel which equates to 6.85 GPH if my calculations are correct. That is an 08 FTD w/ 250 ProXS…now we just need some more numbers. I know I am not comparing apples to apples or the exact motor you are talking but I can tell you a 250ProXS on a 07 Puma and 250ProXS on a 08 FTD burns less fuel than my 225HPDI on a 06 Puma did. That is what all the articles say too but I thought I would just throw that out there. Good luck at least you got the right boat. You rarely hear anyone saying I wish I had less HP, get the 250 you wont be sorry. I guess now I know how AJ feels, it is always easier to spend someone elses money I am funning with by buddy AJ but seriously you would be happy with either but the 250 is a HOT ride. JL
