24P Trophy 25P Trophy Plus
203 Cougar FTD w/ 225 OptimaxOk, I have been playing with the 25P Trophy plus that came on my 225 Optimax. After trying different motor heights and setups I have gotten it do run 5-6 sec hole shots and a top speed of 64.3 to 64.9 with a full tournament load. I also noticed my RPMs were in the 5400 range. With a light load I could get from 68 to 70 at around 5750. Going by the old rule of thumb regarding apx 200 rpm for one inch of pitch I decided to try a 24P borrowed from a friend. It sort of worked. I should have known it was not going to work as soon as I felt the hole shot. A hair over 3 seconds. I just barely started to trim it up when it hit the rev limiter. I was running full load, bubba in the passenger seat. Livewells full or empty didnt matter. I could barely run at about 54 or 55 without over revving. My question is: Is there that much difference between the trophy and the trophy plus or is there some other reason why I gained a lot more than 500 RPM from a one inch change in pitch? It didnt seem to be blowing out as I could feel the boat leap at any touch of the throttle. I said screw it and went to a 25P Tempest, and performance improved all the way around. 4 sec hole shot sometimes as low as 3.5 with light load upto about 6 with a very heavy load. Top speeds from 68.5 to 72 depending on load. For my elevation the Tempest 25 is the prop to use. No more need to screw with it at all. I have the 4 blade for high elevation running, but it will just stay under the seat for a spare the rest of the time.
