250 pro xs holeshot ?

So a friend of mine picked up a 2009 cougar with a 250 pro xs set up is slidemaster plates 1/4 below flush 26 fury . He was nice enough to lend me his rig to fish a team tourney while mine was at the shop ! Blast off 40 degrees mostly full fuel two guys slow out of the hole like 10 seconds ran up a good 15 miles or better not my rig so I ran like 60s seemed flat on mid range . When I approached our spot trim down I can feel the boat is running fairly ruff . Catch a fish fill the wells and loose even more holeshot . Shop look at it coils look good say change prop jack up plate , I say we can run my 25 p jack plate whatever but that motor aint runnin right no way ? I had him smash my rig with 250 ho just to get a feel for what a savage it should be ? So coils not gone yet ,reeds , reprop what do you guys think? We can run

I am running a Bravo 1 XS 28p on an 09 Puma FTD with no issues. My holeshot is very good but I can tell when its loaded but still not bad. Top end is 82.9mph. I had to play with the jackplate several times to get it to run its best. I started out with a Fury 26 and the hole shot was very fast, best I have seen yet on my boat but, it would hit the rev limiter every time and I hated the control on top end. I also tried a Fury 27 it was faster than the 26 with a great holeshot but made my rig run real flat. There is something wrong with your friends setup/motor that does not sound right at all.

I run a 26 Fury on mine. With just me in the boat the holeshot is awesome. If I have a full livewell, gas tanks half full or more and a partner, it takes a long time to get on plane. I think thats just the nature of the beast. I have never hit the rev limiter at any time with my boat.

Yeah Billius I am just trying to get a feel for the pro xs I run a HO same rig. I have read yours and others posts on the subject which is what led me to post the question ? This rig is slow on a light load 1/2 fuel one guy some gear , real slow with a tourny load and almost will not plane with wells full it runs alright in the middle but wont through you in the seat when flogged from 4000 . Now we raised the plate to slightly above flush and it would barely run 70 and can feel a ruff running when trimmed all the way down ( I can always feel little stuff when the trim is bottomed out ). It sounds like most are able to run a 26 with a little suffering at holeshot but a beast everywhere else? Curiosa what everyone has to say?

Something not right thats for sure. Running flush my best midrange and drive, 1/4 up faster (82.8 one person). 26fury jumps out loaded either spot. Got a buddy thats been trying to figure out his 250xs thats doing the same for 2 years. Wish i knew what to tell you.

Hot Foot? If so, maybe the throttle isnt going all the way open. Maybe the prop is flawed. Take everything out of the boat and see what it runs. Maybe your “light” load is heavier than most.

Throttle opening a little over half maybe 2/3 . Im hoping thats the end of that thanks you guys for the responses I just didnt want this guy to start getting talked into changing props and what not diluting the issue a week before he leaves to Texas.
