27″ Trophy on Puma/225 Pro XS Feedback

Scott, etal,I ran the 27″ Trophy on 9/29/05 with just “full-figured” me in the boat (Puma DC/225 Pro XS). Air temp=57-60 degrees; water temp=77-78 degrees; 40 gallons of fuel; all tackle, rain-gear, tools, etc, as I run it.Best GPS speed was 74.1 mph, with rpms between 5500-5600. Jackplate up 1/4″; no blow-out ring, four large hole PVS plugs installed.If I burned off another 10 gallons of fuel and took out all 18 rods & reels, and took out all 75lbs of plastics etc, etc,etc,I am confident it would easily hit 75 mph GPS. I may never sell this rig! Gary Hollander

Gary, shouldnt you be getting a little more rpms at wot, with a medium load? Sounds like the 27 might be a bit too much prop, unless running in early and late season, with lighter loads. Love my Puma!

Gary,Thanks for the info, I finally ran mine this week and with the 26 trophy, it only turns about 5750, so I dont think I can turn the 27. I will play with it this weekend and see.Scott

I raised my engine 1/4″ yesterday, and with 30 gallons of fuel, all of my stuff and full-figured me, ran 74.6 GPS at 5600 rpms.The air temp in the low 50s and water temp in the high 60s.I now have 30 hours on the motor, and it continues to get stronger. When I sell this one, it will be an awesome rig for the new owner…Gary Hollander
