36 VOLT P3 QUESTION

I AM CURRENTLY RUNNING FOUR BATTERIES AND WAS WONDERING YOUR TAKE ON 3 INSTEAD. I AM STILL TRYING TO HELP MY HOLESHOT SOME MORE AND THOUGHT GETTING THE EXTRA BATTERY OUT MIGHT HELP. I AM RUNNING A NEW 109 WITH A 2000 FICHT EVINRUDE FOR AN ENGINE. MOST I HAVE TALKED TO SAY WITH THE EVINRUDES AND YAMMIES STAY WITH 4 BATTERIES. WHAT DO YALL THINK?

I ran a 3 battery 36 volt system in a PII and PIII for years without any problems. The important thing is to use at least a 27 series deep cycle for the 3rd (starting battery). The amp draw is much lower than on a 24 volt system, so the trolling motor shouldnt drain your batteries as long as they are charged after use. But just in case, I always carried a pair of light jumper cables; batteries still go bad.

The added battery will not help your hole shot. It is as mentioned above, you are fine as long as you keep them hot. With a little short pair of jumpers as protection you are better as is. You should try a variety of propellers, perhaps even a few Mercs to get your set up right. That is what your direction needs to be to resolve your performance. We would suggest a 25 Renegade to start, and think you would be better off with a 25 Shooter. A 24 Raker is also a great wheel. BCBPS: Dont forget that a P3 is a big water boat with a nose high hole shot.

I HAVE A 25 RENEGADE, 24 RAKER STOCKED AND A CUSTOM, A CUSTOM 26 RAKER AND HAVE RAN A 23 RENEGADE AND A 25 TROPHY. THEY ALL RUN GOOD ON TOP END JUST MOVES THE RPMS AROUND. THE PROBLEM IS THE BOAT HAS ALOT OF BOW RISE ON TAKE OFF AND IN SHALLOW WATER 2 1/2 FEET I AM HAVING TROUBLE GETTING UP. I PUT A FOIL FROM BOBS ON IT IT KILLED ABOUT 3 MPH AND REALLY DID LITTLE TO HELP THE OTHER ISSUE. I HAVE HAD MOTOR CHECKED EXTENSIVLEY THER ARE NO PROBLEMS THERE. I MAINLY FISH THE MARSHES OF SOUTH LA. AND SOUTH MISS. SO I NEED A SHALLOW WATER TAKE OFF.

I believe you were asking that if you went with 3 vice 4 batteries in the battery compartment, would your holeshot improve?If that is in fact what youre asking, I would try a quick on water test with the removal of one of your trolling motor batteries. If you see an improvement, you may even want to remove your built in charger and convert that into a portable charger.I fish very shallow tidewater rivers as well so Im always looking for a better holeshot. What some people may consider a decent holeshot, others such as myself may not. A 36V trolling motor on that boat must really get you moving! My rather heavy 21″ Champion came with a 36V 101 MinnKota but I swapped that out with a 24V trolling motor and it works just fine.If removing weight from the stern doesnt help and your outboard is sound, then detailed prop work as mentioned above may certainly help.

Ive run a P-II and a P-III with a three battery set-up for many years.Just recently replaced the batteries in my P-III with two Trojan SCS200s and the cranker/third troller with a Trojan SCS225.Since 1996, Ive yet to run my batteries all of the way down, though I carry a small set of jumpers as others have suggested.Three batteries may be a riskier proposition with some of the newer DFI motors which require a little more juice to turn over.Im confident three Trojan SCS225s could carry the demand and still save you about #35 in the stern.
