A Prop question

I am running a Tempest 23 right now. I have a Trophy 23 pitch for a spare but it is a small hub. Do I have to have a blowout ring for it or can I just run it as is. I was thinking about running it for the winter months to keep the RPMs down. Starting to hit 58-5900 yesterday and the boat was cooking but I would rather keep it in specs if possible. YOU RUN THE SABRE/150? WHAT YEAR ENGINE AND MODEL, OPTI/EFI/XR6? PROBABLY HAVE A REV LIMITER, HAVE YOU HIT THE LIMITER? NORMALLY YOU WOULD NOT NEED A BLOW OUT RING. You can run without a blow out ring. I run without on a 250 Pro XS. A blow out ring reduces grass and weeds from getting behind the prop and can help with the holeshot as well.

As P.A. said, you can run without the ring. Also, the rpms are rated at 5000-5600, but dont think youll hurt the engine at much higher levels, in the old days 6000rs was the norm,,,,,not too positive now, but think would be o.k. ! I have a brother that also runs an FTD/250XS and he has never used a blow out ring either. The smaller boats like our 18 footers, will not help much as the engines get them going pretty good. I know mine is 55-5800 rpms and was turning 5910 rpms about a month ago. That is the 24 Tempest on the 175 EFI Magnum. The XR6 is the 2.5 liter block which has been around for years and is one of the most reliable engine blocks ever. You can carry 5800 rpms okay, or even go up in pitch to eat up some of the rpms, if you can or want to swing another prop.
