Depends where you are launching, there are some options that will take a lot of time to get to. From Lake Dora, it is a 20 min idle to go thru the dora canal to get to lake Eustis and then another 15 min idle thru Dead River to get to Lake Harris. To get to Lake Griffin form Lake Dora, the same 20 min thru the Dora canal and then 7-10 mins (on pad) thru haines creek, then small lock (2-5 mins), and another 5-8 mins to get to Griffin. This time of year the best options are flipping the deeper reeds with jigs/beaver type baits, pitching black or junebug/chartruse trick worms (net bait/zoom) in the pads, and sight fishing in the small canals (marinas). Good areas with pads can be found in Harris near venetian garden(by the ball fields) as well as behind Long Island. There are quite a few in the back of little hake harris as well. There is a productive area with pads in Griffin down behind Picciola Island and the bridge that goes thru to griffin state park. Pretty much all of haines creek is lined with pads on both sides with stretches of reeds along the way. Lake Eustis is probably the least productive lake, since it is 80% muck bottom, with the exception of the small canals where the trailer parks are. Lake Dora has some deeper reeds on the south side and the big point by the golf corse, as well as a productive area on the east end in canal that goes thru to lake Beauclair.Lake Beauclair has a mix of reeds and pads along the stretch near the launch ramp. Once you go thru the tiny canal from Beauclair to Lake Carlton, the deepest reeds in the whole chain of lakes is on the right side for about 1/2 mile. Directly across from that bank s a stench of deeper docks with scattered pad patches that has always produce using the trick worm. For sight fishing some of the better areas include the first street canal on the west end of Harris, and up the Palatlakaha River from the mouth up to the Marina on the left. Another good area is the Marina on the right side of Haines Creek 1/4 mile before the lock. On Griffin the marinas near the bridge going to set state park are good, as is the first right just after you go under the bridge.Other baits that can produce fish include a chatter bait and a 1.5 square bill.I lived in Grand Island (the top end of Eustis) for 3 years and fish the chain 3 – 4 times a week (only half days in the summer – I melted – lol). Back on Clearlake and the Cal Delta now – Im in heaven! If I were fishing it would depend on Lake the Launch Area is on and pick my area to maximize fishing time.If the Launch is on Dora (Wooten – seaplane landing), I would fish Beauclair, Carlton and then the far west end of Dora by the canals. If the Launch is on Eustis (Tavarres Recreational Park), I would fish Haines Creek and then the State Park area of Griffin. If the Launch is on Harris (next to the Howey bridge), I would stay in Harris/Little Harris and fish the areas mentioned above.Good Luck where ever you decide to cast!
