Headed up from Dallas for vacation with the family. I actually fish this lake about 3 times a year, but its usually early Spring or Fall. Were staying near Mountain Harbor by the way. I was thinking topwater early? buzzbait?, flipping docks in the marina, main lake points with a shaky head or drop shot? Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!
Id fish at night late and then at night black spider blade around main lake points. Id start in crystal just before you get to main lake and then run up to point 27 rarly in the am and throw boy howdy at schoolers.C.O.D. Jr. III
Id get me about 8 tubes of crickets a day and fill my freezer with pizzer filets ! The bluegill/redear bite should be in full swing over there, and they are a blast ! Bass early and late, bream all day long !
I have been fishing ouachita some lately. Fishing is a grind. You can catch some early and late. I am not a huge night fishing fan but will go some. The big spinnerbait at night is slow. Id get some 10 in Strike King Thumper worms in blue fleck or plum. Hit main lake points and if you stumble on a brush pile just fish it slow. Should be a few schoolers in the big creeks or mouths. Half the FLW Tour has been on Ouachita this week and some are saying its bad and some say not to bad. I dont have a derby on Ouachita sccept for a few night tourneys right now. Sat Night derbys out of Harbor been taking 16-20lbs on average to win. my next daytime derby is the BWS 2 day at the end of August. Its HOT the water is high 80s so its gonna be tough just grind it out and dont leave the sissy stick in your truck !!!
Caught a couple of Kentuckys on drop shot, shaky heads and lipless cranks on main lake points in 20-30. Not too many, but got to continue breaking in the week old Classic, so who really cares anyway. dbasketman- You were right! Man I loaded up on the bream! My 6 year old had a blast! Thank you!By the way, when we werent on the lake, we waded the Ouachita River in Oden and SLAUGHTERED the small mouth bass on ultra lites and weightless rattlesnakes rigged wacky. MAN THAT WAS FUN, those things run like they stole something!!
The bream are awesome at the right times. Glad you got over to Oden to get the feet wet. We used to float the Ouachita with my dad and camp out around Pencil Bluff. Learned how not to hit a low water bridge during those years, the hard way…….Those were great times with dad, glad to see the family enjoy it and they will remember it for years to come!96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
