Anyone running Optima Series 31

very curious to hear what people say. I am running two 31 series on my 2008 Cougar FTD. At first I thought my batteries had gone bad because the light would show green but my batteries had very little juice. I hooked them up on manual charge and have not had any problems since. I thought their was a problem maybe with the on board charger. I have still not had a chance to bring in the boat to have the charger tested and looked at.

I run Optimas on my boat, the Eyra, but like I posted over there, the original Lester on board charger was bad. I went with the Minn Kota 330 and have never had any problems. The on board chargers that BCB uses now I am not sure of. Been running optimas in my boats and autos for nine years without a problem. I have used the on board charger for almost a year on the basscat.

On units produced after September of 2008, the CMR chargers will handle either Spiral or Flat cell AGM batteries. Pre 9/08 chargers will not handle spiral cell batteries like Optima. I am confused on the BCB post. Are you saying there have been problems with the BCB on board charger and spiral cell batteries?

One other thing is I have the Pro Pak III three bank charger in my 2008 Cougar FTD. In my previous 2007 model boat I had a minn kota three bank charger and never had any problems charging the optimas. What makes me think there is a problem with the on board charger is when I put a manual charger directly to the batteries it puts a full charge on them. I will charge the batteries with the on board charger overnight and it will indicate green but it is like there is only a half charge on the batteries.

I have run optimas on my last 2 boats with no battery or charger problems. I had 2 different chargers and my new basscat has a Pro pak. I dont know if my boat that was recieved sept 08 is after the date BCB is talking about or if it is the same brand. I occasionally fish 2-day tournaments w/out being able to hook up the charger with out any problems. Optimas ROCK. I have 4 on my boat that weigh less than the 3 wet cells, and the group 31s fit in the aluminum trays just fine. Wareagle I would call propak tech and see if your serial # is not compatable, I bet they will swap you or find your problem if there is one. Good luck Bruce
