Topic: Back Up Lights-Bilge Battery Compartment Lights!

Ok. I have a couple of problems, first the back up light on the trailer. It is out. Good ground, and wire has power on trailer side, as checked with a test light. Is this a warranty item? 2008 Model. Second, the battery compartment lights are not working. I checked the power wire and it has power. I also can touch the mercury switch with a test light and the test light will light up. Any ideas? I figured the mercury switch issue out by testing 2 other compartments the same way. If you have a compartment light string that is out, and touch the mercury switch with a test light, and the test light lights up, the mercury switch has no constant ground, therefore, it is a ground issue and the mercury switch is good.James

The reverse light we will be happy to take care of, just contact Service. The Mercury switch is in an aluminum capsule and the ground is the lid itself. The lights are always Positive (hot) and the ground activates the lights with the switch.We have dug those switches out and put in new ones, though it is a chore as the aluminum pod is welded on. You can also add a new molded pod with switch and screw it onto the center lid support. The choice is yours, and be sure the ground is working. An ohmmeter will check the switch for continuity. While a test light will not. BCB

Well, thanks for the response! I will contact Scott about the reverse light and run the boat over to Tommys to warranty the Compartment lights! I do not have an ohmmeter!James

BCB,Thanks for the info. Talked to Scott and he is going to take care of the back up light! Thanks!Also, I fixed the compartment string light issue. It was a bad ground. It was the ground that attached to the underside of the bullet hinge on the bilge access hatch! I found that the mercury switch will stay energized when the ground isnt constant. Just like you said. I also found out that I know as much about electricity, as I do propellers. Not Much! Thanks, JamesJames
