Bass Cat/Others opinion on the new Lock & Haul transom savers

Hey all, what do you think of these new transom savers? Hype or is there some reasonable sense to this? http://www.lock-n-haul.com/features.html

My dealer put a Swivl-Eze Lock N Stow on mine, I like it but always had a regular Transom Saver so we will see how it works.

BCB only suggests the full length transom savers. A similar discussion a couple days ago on the 24th we think?BCB

A friend of mine once ran in the back of someone while towing a boat…well, ok I didnt think yould believe that…I ran in the back of someone once while towing a boat but it wasnt my fault. I was trying to retrieve a loose gatoraid bottle on the floor board and looked up in time to see the person in front of me had stopped. It was an older boat with no trailer brakes and just wouldnt stop in time.The impact drove the motor down and the transom saver transferred the force to the trailer cross beam. It bent the transon saver up. But the boat and motor was ok. The way I see it, if it had a lock-n-hall saver type the force would have been transferred to the boat transom, possibly cracking it. Is that correct BCB and why yall recommend the full length transom savers?

Bass1958 makes a good point also but I think the main issue is normal impacts from hitting pot holes, bumps, speed bumps, etc. Think about it. If you hit a pot hole (normal occurrence in the Northeast), the motor /boat/trailer go down and come back up in an instant. The energy from the shock/weight of the rear of boat and motor going down and then back up suddenly has to be transferred to something. With the full transom saver the trailer takes the shock via the full transom saver vs. with the tote, the shock gets absorbed by the boat. Last I checked, transom savers or even trailers are much easier/cheaper to fix or replace then a boat transom if something is damaged. BCB – please correct me if Im wrong.

I think Lock N Haul has corrected this, but some over on the BBC had problems with them bending. I use the traditional transom saver. Price is probably about the same and its what BCB recommends…that is good enough for me.

This particular motor toter is not suggested by others, though BCB only suggests a full length motor toter.

trim an inch or two of metal from the bottom U (where it sits on the roller on the boat trailer) on the underside of the transom saver so it doesnt break the center light on the trailer light bar

When I left Mountain Home with my boat, BCB sold me a full length transom saver. I got to Texas, and thought the Lock-n-Haul was cool so I bought one. They adjusted it for me and put it on. FOR THE LIFE OF ME I cannot get that thing adjusted right again. This morning I went out, and when I got to the lake the Lock-n-haul was hanging by its clip. On the way home, I used the full length transom saver from BCB. I have a lock-n-haul for sale now. Seriously, it worked great at first, but high maintanence, you have to keep it adjusted. Save your money-I didnt.
