Bass Cat retractable rod holder straps

The retractable straps do leak into the boxes somewhat. The level depends on the location and position across the boat line.

I really like the retractable straps, had the Velcro on my other Bass Cat. Personally, I havent ever noticed water leaking in to my rod boxes. Weve fished in some decent rain but not lots of times since last December.

Ive always had the Velcro straps until I got my Caracal. It has the retractable straps. Im okay with them and have no water leaks Ive ever noticed anyway. I would rather have the Velcro, only because I figure at some point the retractable straps will fail…then what do I do? I guess I will worry about then when the time comes, if it does.

Billius,I believe on the Caracal there is a pocket that the retractable strap assembly resides in that will not allow for water leaks into the rod box. As opposed to cutting a hole in the gunwale for installation.I love my retractable straps on my Caracal. I had installed them on two other boats previously and never noticed any water leaks by the way.Dave.

Got them on the Jag and I have not had any water in the boxes. I really like mine.
