Battery question

Before you do anything, swap the charger leads from one of the known good banks to rule out a charger issue. There is a certain threshold level of discharge where the onoard chargers wil not be able to bring a battery up to full charge. If that is the case a good automotive charger may be able to bring it back up. If you have access to one, you can try that, or take the battery to a shop that has a good one. Did you disconnect everything from that battery before you put it into storage to prevent parasitic draw? If you have an opti or Verado and have poles, higher end electronics, use the livewells, etc. then that 1500 barely exceeds minimum requirements for ccas and just meets suggested reserve capacity. If you have to replace it, get a 31 series. If you like Odyssey, get the 2150 which is a rebadged Sears PM 1.

The place that stored my boat was supposed to trim my motor down and disconnect the cranking battery once the boat was moved into place. The boat was dropped off with fully charged batteries. When I picked up my boat, neither was done. I disconnected the talon upon storage, but guess parasitic draw is the culprit here. I did disconnect the trolling batteries and made sure they had adequate water and they are fine. I do run a VRod and bought the battery that verado club recommends. I will try changing the leads and will also try an automotive charger. If it matters, I checked the battery while on the charger and it was reading over 14 volts.Thanks for the insight.

It may come up to a full 12.8 static when sitting, after a long term charge. The battery may last longer though load test it and if its bad get a new one now while prorating is higher.

If your units are not direct wired to the battery, do that first. That often resolves issues like yours, as time/corrosion play a part in the boat wiring. Use 10 or 12 gauge tinned marine wire and a 3 amp blade style fuse close to the battery. Your battery may still do the job after direct wiring, but a 31 series would be much better.

Go direct wiring to the dash and bow. BCB Parts will probably offer the new 2016 Premium system in the coming season. They will probably have it in different lengths for various other brands. This is a wiring harness in tinned 6 gauge wire with a terminal buss at the console, and 10 gauge tinned to the bow. These are all soldered connections.

Thanks for the responses. Upgrading to a 31 was already in the works but Ill also be wiring direct as suggested. Im guessing that this will be a fun job!! Ill check with BCB parts this week.
