boot and hull colors

My opinion is it makes little difference. My home lake is deep and very clear (by southern water standards) and I have fished this lake out of boats with gray, white, blue, red and now a boat with a black hull. Most of my fishing is vertical at this time of the year and I cant tell any difference in the number of bites from the lighter colored hulls vs.the darker ones. Again, this is just an OPINION, but I doubt you will find anyone with any scientific proof to claim otherwise. BTW- I think the black boot looks the best … Brian

Seems to me like it shouldnt matter. If a fish is looking up, they are seeing a shadow/silhouette of the boat. They are seeing a darkened spot on the surface where the boat is blocking the sun. You have to have light to be able to see color, and there isnt much light reflecting upward toward the bottom of the boat. They shouldnt be able to distinguish the boot color anyways. Great question! Heres a little story that may help you… My dad, Hubert Greene, had Ranger build him the first black boat that anyone knew of at the time. All of my fathers friends told him that he had made a terrible mistake because he would scare the fish. They went on to explain that when a fish looks up and sees the boat drifting over they should see a white boot so that they would simply think it was a cloud and nothing out of the ordinary. Without missing a beat my dad replied, “Well, the way I look at it is that fish bite better on rainy days,” and walked off. The guys were left scratching their heads because they had never thought of it that way. Regardless, from my experience, Ive owned boats with black and white boots and dont seem to think that it makes much difference on the number of fish I catch. Good fishing to you! I had a light gray boot on my first boat and white on the last two. I fish a low of shallow stumpy water and always thought that the light color would show scratches less. Is that accurate or have others had opposite experiences? Not ordering my next boat until next year, but frankly Ive seen some color combos with black boots that Ive really liked, and if they show just as well, might be tempted.

I always thought I wouldnt order a black boot just because I had one (another brand boat) and it showed scuffs and streaks where I would wipe it off. Bottom line is the BCBs exterior is harder than most (if not all) on holding up to scuffs and scratches. I will probably order a black one just because I am ready for a change after 3 red ones. I think any boot colors can look good with the right combination. I do like the red boot though. I dont think it makes a nickle difference on catching fish according to PA, I am never gonna catchem Judd Lasiter

My last boat had a white bottom, my P4 has a black boot only becuase it looked better to me for my color combination. I have seen yet that one boat helped or hurt my catching of fish. I dont think the fish really care either, but there are some people think that it does.

I have had a black boot, white boot, and gray boot on the 3 Cats I have owned. Never really noticed much difference in fish catches….so thats the final answer! I have not caught fish in several boats, many with different color hulls/boots, different lengths, manufacturers and motor sizes and brands. I used to think the fish were conspiring against me ..I thought I heard them laughing as I went by. Turns out it was my partner on the back deck.
