I should get me a camera crew and film a bloopers video of myself this year. 2 weeks ago I ws in one of my stands. Perfect for the evening hunt. As usual, the deer came in at 45-30 minutes to loosing light. I had a perfect 17 yard shot on a mature doe. But, little did I know a fault could happen. When I drew back, I noticed I could not raise my bow. I looked down and discovered that I had rolled my pants leg into my cam as I drew back. Letting off of my draw, I spooked the deer. Last night, More bloopers.I was in the same stand and I had a really nice 8 point come in like he was on a stirng. 20 yards and I came to full draw. I released the arrow and BAM, I hit the shooting rail of my stand and my arrow went straight up in the air and stuck in the cealing. The buck spooked about 10 feet. He calmed down and I watched as VERY nice cull 7 point came in to join the 8. They bothe fed around. The eaight never did give me another shot, so I chose to try for the cull. He walked to my camera and licked on it for about 15 seconds then turned broad sider. It was a 12 yard shot and I knew I had this in the bag. I came to draw and when I released, BAM, same dang thing happen. I hit the shooting rail and I watched as my arrow flew over the brush about 60 yards until it disappeared. The deer spooked away about 60 yards, looking around trying to figure out what that noise was. They got calm and fed off away from my stand.I dont know how anyone can make the same mistake twice in 15 minutes of one hunt. I laughed at myself as I called a bow expert buddy of mine and expalined to him what I did. I never thought about what i was doing until after he had explained to me what I was not noticing. Reminds me of the last 2 yrs hunting with my grandson and him making sure a round is chambered. When the deer comes up, he shoots, the gun goes “click”. He hadnt pulled the bolt back far enough to load the bullet. Scares the deer when trying to rechamber. Happens 2 years in a row. I call him “Click” sometimes…….. He did get his first buck after that so hes good and cant wait for season to start. Nice.. Love those moments.. Had a few of them myself in the last few years.. I am however proud to report that my 10 year old boy took his first deer this past weekend.. Nice 2-1/2yo cull spike.. Brilliant shot, every foot of 200yds perfet center mass double lung punch with his Sako .243.. We shoot alot together and I was confident he could make a clean shot with no issue.. Drilled him.. Almost as big a smile as when he knocked down his first duck this year.. Great year of firsts for the boy.. He is determined to boat a 5lber+ before Christmas so the Cougar is gonna get a workout over the next few months..
I hopped on a ladder stand early one morning with my trusty 270 pump at the ready. Daylight just broke real good and a 6 point walked out about 70 yards in front of me and to the left. I knew he was mine! First shot went over top of him and he just started moving in my direction and I let the second shot fly at about 50 yards and missed again. Pumped another round in and shot and missed again all the while he is in a brisk walk toward me. Well the next round flew at 30 yards and yes you guessed it. Missed again. At 15 yards let the 4th shot fly and missed again. Down to ole number 5 shot at 10 FEET and I missed. Out of bullits so I climb down that ladder and went home knowing that deer was the luckest feller of the morning……………georgeGeorge
Sounds to me like you need to give the bow away before you kill yourself ! After the first one went into the cieling id have had to go home and change drawers,,,,,,, just sayin.
NAAAAAA, I just need to pay better attention and take in consideration to what my friend had told me. Which is, the distance between my sites and the arrow. Thats what I was doing wrong. I did research and found several instances where PRO hunters have actually shot themselves from a deflective arrow. Especially in a blind where the arrow bounced off the fabric and came back at the hunter or it caught a limb that the hunter did not see and it slung the arrow back. I learned that what you see looking through your sites is not always what lays JUST in front of your arrow right there close.
