Caracal/New Evinrude G2

Very sharp boat!! No way I could get used to that engine though. But then, I don’t have to get used to it either, whoever buys it does.

The engine generated LOTS of lookers, and once you get past the bttf look and hear it run you get the impression there’s something growling under there. The boats run were gorgeous, and both ran equally as impressive as looked. Like BCB stated, lack of dealers in BCB areas has the market limited, but that could change. We all win when there is healthy competition between engine manufacturers.

Driving JR’s Caracal with Mercury and riding in Evinrude Caracal was the highlight of very informative meeting. JR’s was full of tackle and the Evinrude had only one tank of gas (I was told) but both had fantastic hole shots. Boat seemed like it was up in about not much more than a boat length. One hit 76.1, and that certainly felt fast enough for anyone especially with 36 degree air temp. And the size of front deck along with the storage in the boat is something to envy. Great stability when moving around the boat whild fishing would be a major plus for us older anglers. I could see myself in one of these beauties.

A lot of positive feedback yesterday at the dock. I loved it, both boat and engine,,, but. I just can’t fix something that isn’t broken. I don’t need electric shift, but it’s coming. I don’t need electronic displays, but they’re here. I don’t need “fly by wire” technology, but it is replacing cables on everything. I don’t need power steering on a bass boat, yet. But then again,,,, I don’t need a new boat either, but I’m getting one ! WHY, I freakin WANT it ! I just hope I live long enough to wear it slam out !

I love the look of the G2 and I am NOT a Evinrude fan…yet. I am surprised the hole shot was only as good as the SHO with all the hype.

Yup, swing tongue, wheel and tire upgrade, led’s, etc,,,,

b.t.w. Did you guys know that BCB uses the same carpet on the bunks they use on the boats ? True. 24 oz, premium carpet, no other boat manufacturer uses as good a carpet.

Doug, once you get the kitty home, I would appreciate it if you would check the storage length it will take with the Pro XS 225 on the back.

It’s listed at 23′ minimum storage length with the swing tongue, but I’ll gladly check when I get mine.

Thanks! If you don’t care check what it would be with your trolling motor and if your trolling motor was not there. If that would change it. I know the minimum storage length listed on the Sabre FTD page is far from accurate.

We have a serious high percentage of Mercury engine sales and Mercury full line only dealerships. This has restricted engine growth by either Evinrude or Yamaha. Our Yar-Craft base actually has a solid Yamaha following in areas and at times.

No one was restricted from speaking about performance on the G2 or the Pro XS 225 that was run, both on Caracal models. The Pro XS we ran is a Verado Gearcase and thus some was left there.

The G2 ran almost exactly like the Yamaha SHO did on the Caracal. The engine hit bottom end torque curve fast, to be fair it also has a hole set plate installed on the lower engine mount, which we have not evaluated the benefit of without. It does help on other engines and thus we have to assume it does here.

Mid range throttle response was very throaty and quick pulsing. Top end was mid 70’s with some ease and lower with some drivers, or heavy loads.

The cosmetics of the engine really were well accepted by those here in person. We were apprehensive first when images popped out, then after reserving comment and comparing this to a remake of appearance we saw a competitor make in the 1990’s, it became a common look desirable to their base. We feel this engine also will be accepted, other than the size of its appearance on some boats. It has the oil included and it is large, plus offset is supposed to be more like the Verado, making it appear even larger.

Top end runs were able to hit mid 75 plus speeds similar to the other engines we have run on the Caracal and this might just put BRP back in the game. Though we would have to have BRP Evinrude dealers to make the market for this product. Something we don’t have now with only a handful of BRP franchises. Then those dealers that are BRP will have to open their views up also.

Rick,  great read and appreciate your thoughts.  What size prop on the G2 Caracal testing?   Also, what were the RPMS at WOT?  Also, was there any  NMEA2000 GPH or MPG data?  Good to see BRP build one from scratch.  That color scheme with Engine panels looks great!

Caracal is now in 1725 lb range.  Wow!  that some weight reduction.  I need to get on the same game plan.  

Price point comes with standard 5/5/5 warranty with option to buy 2 more years.    As said it’s good to have more players bringing more options for consumers to consider.  Competition is good.
