Although the fishing has been tough because of the heavy flow recently, the Arkansas River is your closest and best bet in my opinion. With the flow coming down and the water clearing, it will get better and better. Lake Maumelle is close and the fish are still shallow. You wont catch anything very big, but you might catch a bunch of 12-15 inchers fishing the water willow around the bank.John

Thanks, Maumelle and DeGray were the first two I was thinking… Ive fished DeGray enough to be familiar… and I could hit it then just drive home…. I will likely have my FiL with me so the fishing needs to be pretty easy. Schooling fish would be a bonus. Id love to flip the willows all day but hes not very good with a flipping stick.

Greers ferry is coming on. Its tough to beat a floating worm there in the bushes.

Arkansas River – from Cabot, itll be about a 30 minute run. Its also right beside the airport. Lakes would be too tough to figure out green. River will be your quickest bite to figure out. Fish jetty tips and youll have a blast. Theyre most all out of the water and As was said – currents coming down and the waters clearing up. Tie on a white or chartreuse squarebill and have fun. Buzzbait, spinnerbait could also be fun to start the day. You should have no problem getting bit or putting together a quick pattern. Theyll be on rock, wood, or grass – figure out the combination and catch a bunch. Keep it between the bouys and you can run to your hearts content – about 18miles between the dams. Once you get out of the bouy channel – be off plane. It can get shallow quickly…..

Just goto maumelle. FIL would be getting hung in bushes all day at greers and youll inevitably hit something in the river. At maumelle just run to about mid lake and fish bank grass on NORTH side of the lake. That lakes barely 5000 acres. You wont have a problem there and everything is on the map card. Ok several votes for Maumelle so far. what kind of water clarity am I dealing with? I fish a lot of braid but I have 17 lb flouro on one flipping stick at the moment. Will that work?

Is Maumelle Harbor the best place to launch? Or is there a better place?… Google Earth doesnt reveal many options in that regard.
