Changing sonars have some questions

Im swapping out my Lowrance x51 in the bow and console and replacing with them Hummingbirds.#1 when I popped the transducer in the bilge area there is A LOT of epoxy still there ( no epoxy on the transducer at all ). The old transducer was mounted to get starboard side of center. Can I put my new one in the center or to the port side of center so I dont have to fool with scrapping the old epoxy?#2 Can I just clip the end off my Lowrance power cable at the bow since it was only 2 wires and splice in the new HB power cable since it is only 2 wires or do I have to run it across and patch it in behind the trolling motor connection, If I have to run it across what wires do I tie it into.#3 Is it best to just abandon the old transducer cable and clip the cable as close as I can on both ends?Thanks

1. Yes you can move it over.2. Lowrance would not suggest splicing the cables as you will get more noise3. See if it is loose and you may be able to use it to run the new Transducer wire.

what wires to i use to connect my new HB bow mount. There is a bundle of wires behind the trolling motor plug. Also how do I splice into them? do i use the same connectors that you you on your truck to hook up the trailer wires. You just slip them on and close them without cutting the main wire

Im not sure of this would work for you but once I was replacing some wire in a wall and I tied the new wire to the old wire and pulled the old wire out while it fed the new wire through the wall. Maybe I taped them together somehow so there wasnt any knot to hang up. Cant remember since it was longer ago than my brain synapsis has lasted.

Remove the power cords and cut the butt connectors off at the power cord, then put new butt connectors on the HumminBird power cords.

I finally found the old wires. I had to pull out the Acc/Nav switch to find them. They were pushed back toward the center of the boat so you couldnt see them through the TM opening.Thanks

Just went through this this weekend. Took the 480 out of the nose, the GPS antenna was under the console. Had to cut the connector off the extension cable, would not pull through the conduit (must have been installed befor the top cap was installed). Had to cut the connector off the transducer for the LCX 15 in the hull, same reason when I removed the LCX 15 from the console. . Before I pulled the old wires out, I attached safety wire (bailing wire) to the wire end and pulled it through. That way, I had a wire to use to tape the HB 1197 and 898 wiring to to pull them whichever direction I needed. Basically, I had to pull the SI transducer, the quad beam (no 2 tranducer for the 1197) and the GPS antenna wire from the back to the console. pulled a power wire and the interlink wire from the nose to the console. I like to power all my electronics from one switch to the battery rather than having to turn on the accessory switch. Better that way when I dont need to run the live well stuff.Still have to connect the interlink and weather sense in, but that will be a snap now.LOTS of work, I cant imagine ever getting a LOwrance system installed easily with thier big connectors.Milton
