Charger ???

I have the cul m rite pro pak 3 on my 2006 P4, Today when un hooking the charger i noticeed that only one of the three lights was lit up green, the other two, showed nothing (red or green), same as when i hooked it back up after returning. Is the charger charging and the lights are burnt out or are those two banks fried? Any way to trouble shoot?? Not what I would expect out of a unit that is 14 months old, but it does have a 3 year warranty. Also there is a green cable with about 5 or 6 wire leads that are not hooked to anything coming of the charger what are these for? What will be the easiest way to replace? Go to the dealer (2 hour round trip) or have one shipped to me and i can send the old one back? Our BC Team trail starts next weekend, so kind of in a bind here.And to top it off, my trolling motor cable snapped on me this morning (again only 14 months old) before i even made my first cast, so needless to say it was a short day on the water. Gafishin,You should try disconnecting the leads which are not functioning, and moving them to another battery, placing working leads on the battery not now charging. This will verify specific gravity and condition of the battery not charging plus compatibility of the charger leads to those batteries.If that fails, AFT will take excellent care of you.BCBPS: JL, that trolling motor cable probably jumped a pulley under the foot control and got worn on the bolt for the pulley. This is the most common issue.

Jason – Sounds like the above should determine the status of your charger. Sorry to hear about your TM cable. Maybe it is your boats way of saying, “take me fishing more.”

This exact same thing happened to me in August this year. I got on to the Cul-m-rite website and posted a question pretty much the same as yours. Rick Stanfield got back to me via e-mail the next day and said that he would ship one out to me. I had it in less than a week. They will need your serial # and if you have a remote display or not. I put the old one in the box and shipped it back to him. I believe i i found the problem, it seems as though two of the in line fuses have blown, isnt always the simple things, i was a little hesitant about cutting the heat shrink, as these things are sealed very well with heat shrink, i was not sure if it was a warranty thing. But opened up two of the 3 and both fuses were blown, I will test it tomorrow after i get the new fuses. Thanks for all the repsonses, and I am glad to hear that Cul m Rite wil stand behind their product (as I still may need them)As for the trolling motor, the cable broke inside the head unit. The cable itself seems intact, but the sheath, that covers the cable (looks like a brake cable on a bicycle) actually failed and split apart, which ending up jamming the cable at a 45 degree angle. I know that sounds confusing but have a pic if any one wants to see what i am talking about email me at jlaw06@comcast.net. I will be getting my new cable tomorrow.ThanksJason Law

Now that I have found the manual for the charger and did some reading, it sounds what I was thinkming was correct about the fuses.The manual has a note that reads: “Each charging output has a fuse installed on the black lead by the mounting lug. If this fuse is blown it indicates a problem with the charger. Do not replace the fuse but please send charger to factory for repair”.I think they need to place a sticker on those cables that reads that same info.Man I thought I had this figured out too! Guess I will be calling them in the AM, I am Hoping they can get me one by Friday, if not looks like i will be charging my batteries the good ole fashioned way.Jason S. Law2006 P4Mobile Al

Any chance you either (a) disconnected the charger (to replace a battery for example) while the charger was plugged in or (b) dropped something on top of the battery that caused a spark, while the charger was plugged in? Either one of those will blow that fuse.Family member did this back at the beginning of the summer. Story started out like they all do, charger never showing full charge on one battery. He decided to buy a new set of batteries, but didnt think to unplug the charger. Apparently as he pulled an old battery out, the leads touched and blew the inline fuse (which is what it is designed to do in fact). He called and said “dang, now it wont charge at all, come over and look when you get a few minutes…” A quick voltmeter test showed nothing on the charger leads and the fuse was quickly identified as the source of the problem.
