Climbing gator??? I think I need a bigger boat

A gator that can climb! Ive been fishing in FL for a long time and have never seen this before. This gator, about 6-8 long, is on top of this root ball which is about 3 off the ground. The tree part of the root ball was really just a leafy palmetto, nothing this guy could use as a ramp up. That is not an unusual sight down here in the spring when the water is cold but the sun is warm. You will some times see them on the cribbing around wellheads and such and really cannot figure how they got there.

We dont have any of these big lizards up in Missouri, so Im not well versed in what they can / cant do. I was fishing at Choke Canyon last week where the gators were pretty thick in certain areas. My fishing partners were scared to even be in the same area as the critters, saying they could easily jump into the boat (06 Puma). I didnt see that really as a concern.Anyone ever have one of these guys try to get in the boat…or better, try and succeed getting in the boat?tnxedwinAdvantages are taken, not handed out…

If you fished the REZ over the last 30 yrs., you would have encountered many gators as the lake is full of them. Ive had a gator stick his head over my passenger seat while in a narrow cut, had 11 gators dive under the boat off the bank ,scrape the bottom and come up beside me and seem to say follow me big boy and get away from my babies on the bank. In any backwater pools off the river ,its nothing to see 20-40 laying on the grass, 3-12. Just another day at the REZ, very common. I would rather have a gator in the boat that a cottonmouth. The only place to be if a cottonmouth is in the boat, is out of the boat. Gators will tend to go the other way if not molested. Cottonmouths are just plain nasty. Experienced both during childhood years on Lake kiss. in Fla. Once caught a rattler on a fly rod in Tiger Lake. Lost fly, leader, and a bout 20feet of line due to a sharp Oldtimer.Martin
