You do not have to be an ABP member, though a BASS only membership is required. You can bring a boat to practice if you like, or not. The Pros may let you ride in the practice in a few cases. You can sometimes set that up in advance if you know anyone. They are a good learning experience, and not as talented as those at the Elite level on technique, though better than average overall. Sure a few bad draws occur, though not many as we have seen some good friendships forged on the Co Anglers we have seen Homer, Darrell, Ed, Ron, Rick, Mark and others have in those events. BCB

If you decide not to bring your boat, you can almost always find some one to ride with. Either ask someone at the boat ramp or at the motel.

One of the nice things about the Opens, if you wish to you can find one of the competitors to prefish with and they are there sometimes a week or more prior since prefishing is not limited to the two and a half days prior to the event. All it will usually cost you is gas money and you can get a pretty good idea of what the fish are doing without having operate your own boat and drag it all over the country. If you meet and fish with one of the regulars, quite a few of the elite guys fish the Opens, you may make arangments to prefish other events on the trail also. I have fished both the Elites and Open as a co-angler and I enjoyed it very much. Good luck!!

If you are fishing the co-angler side and want to pre- fish in your boat, you must also have the minimum liability insurance required by BASS. I think it is 300,000 min for all events with BASS. Like Scott said, you can most likely find someone at the ramp or motel that would be happy to have some company in the boat for a couple of days. Hope this helps you a little.Cliff
