Cougar 203 Hybrid Prop

Hello,

 

I have a new to me 2021 Cougar 203 Hybrid w/ 250 XS + Bobs Machine Jackplate. It’s currently propped with a Fury 23P, all holes plugged.

 

A couple of things I probably need tips on. One, I want to keep a spare prop around, are there some recommended props for this boat?

Second, I’m still learning to work with a hydraulic jack plate, a couple of times it bogged down and just sat in the hole, the second time it popped out. Not sure if I’m doing something wrong with the Jack plate height adjustments. Engine checks out fine, probably user error. It’s a different launch than my previous boat that just jumped out the hole, it seems to wallow about 3-5 seconds and just jump out like it’s on springs.

Any tips would be appreciated.

We basically run the same boat only mine is a Puma Hybrid/300. Used to run  24 Fury 3 blade, no plugs. Motor all the way tucked in, hole shot fine but top end, 71-72 tops!?!? Switched to a 25p Power tech 3 blade, no plugs. Same setting, motor tucked in, hole shot good, top end “Way” better, upper 70’s. Hope this helps!

Breckster: I have the exact same setup and prop as you, except you don’t need any pvs plugs in the prop. I would pull them and then if it blows out, put 1 back in at a time.  I normally run my jackplate about 3-4 dots up on the Bob’s gauge all the time, unless I’m idling in shallow water. My holeshot is quick, but if I have a heavy load with full livewells I may lift the plate about 1/2 way, then drop it back down when the bow drops back over.
