crack in prop

I just thought I would share a picture of what I found on my prop today. One of the blades is cracked over halfway through it. Just glad it didnt come off in my last tournament while running the Mississippi River.

Remember… your prop is your “tire”. I look at mine after every trip, and have not thrown a blade since I started doing this. I walked thru the beeswax launch on Lay back when Marks tournament was going on, and found three props with cracked blades, and I was not doing a careful inspection. Owners were shocked… One probably would have lasted until the next trip, was about 75% cracked at the root of the blade near the hub, waiting to come off.2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200

these props catch hell. I used to have a neat video a friend sent me of one of the new ultra-light smith and wesson .357 revolvers (scandium) being fired while being filmed with a very high speed camera. The video was incredible as the gun looked like it was made out of jello, with everything expanding, contracting, wiggling, etc. I later saw a similar video filmed from the back of a bass boat shooting a high-speed video of the prop. You just _think_ those blades are rigid. They are flapping around like you would not believe when you watch up close and at high frame speed so you can see it in slow motion… I never wondered why blades show stress cracks again… and I had no idea before seeing that exactly what was going on.2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
