Ok I got the Cougar in April and the Interstate battery that came with it for cranking is about to go. Its not holding a charge for a full day of fishing. Now here is my question. I have looked at the battery recommendations from BCB and I was wondering what those recommendations are based on?
Probably based on their knowledge of the batterys and experience with them. Consider that they have a lot of people running different brands and hear the good news and bad. I use what they recommend. On another note, I have had problems in the past with Interstates on several occasions so I feel your pain.
They also did some extensive battery testing a while back, and the battery recommendations are the batteries that did the best in their testing. They apparently put the batteries to a torture test, and the ones they recommend are the ones that worked best throughout their testing. BCB may comment more on their testing. We think you boys covered it in general.
Were the tests done for cranking, tm or both?
The uses were for the cranking battery mostly. We found that most good 27 series batteries would work for a trolling motor if you used a good charger. The issues we have faced for a few years were cranking batteries and we found that most were just not enough for the demand. BCB

BCB In other words get the biggest, baddest 30-31 series AGM battery you can find/afford/fit? The DFI engines require a lot of grunt to turn over.
It is not actually the grunt. It is more we just need amperage that a 1000 CCA mini battery does not even come close to providing. To get those CCAs in a deeper cycle time you have to get really large batteries with different plate and capacity designs.
I am in need of a cranking battery for my 06 classic with a 2.5 200hp Merc. Which do you suggest?
