DD-26 or Attwood Heavy Duty Transom Saver?

I have a Puma STS with a 300 Mercury Pro XS on order.  What does BassCat recommend for the transom saver for this particular rig?  I have in the past used the Attwood Heavy Duty Transom Saver that connects the foot of the outboard to the bottom trailer roller.  Many people are recommending the DD-26 engine bracket instead of the more traditional or old fashioned transom saver.  I just want to get the best protection for my transom and engine.  What does BassCat recommend that I purchase?  Thank you in advance.

I doubt that BCB has changed their stance, but they have always suggested the traditional style connecting to the bottom trailer roller.  I’m sure they will be along shortly to comment. With the other style though, have a look at the Tote Rite STR8.  It has stabilizer bars so you don’t have to bother with steering clips.

The stance hasn’t changed, though it’s deemphasized in conversation because of the gearcase support being the only full transom support model available. Newer engines don’t allow the style we had Lou make.

Basscat:  So, I gather you are saying that the Attwood Heavy Duty Transom Saver is what you think will most protect the engine and BassCat transom?

My chief complaint against the Attwood product is that the grommets that attach the lower unit wear out quickly, and scratch the paint on the motor. Keep an eye on that, what I do is put an old towel between that and the motor.
