Dettached retina and driving a bassboat – help please

Just had eye surgery for dettached and torn retina. Surgeon wont give me any idea whether or not I will be back in my Sabre – soon or at all. Anybody have any experience with this type of injury. — Over 30% dettached with multiple tears . I am 57 with no previous eye problems. Thanks

Sir, Im just a little “older” than you. I have had the RK long ago then it was a dettached retina, cataract problems, cornal transplant, as well as lens implant. The one thing that I would stress is that “you” explain your sport to your doctor and, please give it some time to heal. Have a beer on the bank and get back when things are good and vision is improved. I know that surgury is rough, but let it heal, then get back in that boat and “kick ass”. I am a doctor, I have a partner with a detached retina right now. He actually re-detaced 2 weeks after his first nitrogen bubble and had to have a scleral buckle. He cant even come to the office for 6 weeks…Face down in bed for 7 days at first.Dont even think about getting in that boat for a significant period of time…By significant my guess would be that you might always have some higher risk than standard and you need to put the stabil in your gas and wait til spring on this one. Tell your opthomologist how fast you go on the water and that it would be like driving a golf cart 70 and he or she will understand….Hook set is another issue- tell him/her its equivalent to a hard fast valsalva and see what is recommended.C.O.D.
