Did not know BCB produce a fish/ski. Any history you could tell of it would me fun to know. Looks very nice. God Bless, Stephen
Called the Calico, it was around 18, I think rated for 150-175. This was early in the “fish and ski” phase and the package was nice for a growing family. Many of the ideas were incorporated by larger manufacturers that began flooding the market, so to speak, with these type boats. Since the other manufacturers could build volumes, for example Nitro, the Calico was eventually “retired”. BC retires names of boats that are no longer in production, thus if there ever comes a time for a new Cat design, there will be a name. They are probably more of a rare find than an Eyra. See…Cats do have 9 lives….We only have a Pantera IV right now……….Last edited by jignpig on May 1st, 2009, 10:33 pm, edited 1 time in total. 96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
We did build a really great 18 Fish and Ski. The Calico had full side panels and performed really well with anything from a 135 through to a 175 engine. jignpig hit the nail on the reason it was dropped. It seems that the J Molded windshield and full panels were expensive, and a screw down windshield mattered not to the fish and ski crowd. The boat has full windscreens in glass all the way around to the wings. The drivers seat was on tracks and pivoted, while the passengers seat was a roto molded pivot bucket. The boat was build and offered for several years, though it was initially in 1989 model year from memory. The end of production was due to a price conscious market that was not impacted by lesser quality. It seems that the family crowd only cared (s) most about price and having those seats. BCB
There is one sitting next to the highway going through Hampton, AR under a tin shed. I drive by it going to El Dorado. Maybe Ill stop and take a picture! The boat looks to be in good shape, I think it might have a 200 Mariner on it?
I had to go back to El Dorado today, so I stopped in Hampton to check on the Calico. It was a 1989 with a 150 Mariner on it. The Mayor of Hampton was the original owner and was selling it. It was in excellent condition having been garaged and covered its entire 20 years. What would you guess he got for the boat after using it for 20 years?$5,000.00 cash. Now that is re-sale value!
