Difference between PII and PIII

friend of mine is looking at a 98 PIII, and we cant find anything on the model. Just wondering what the difference was between the PII and PIII

A lot! There is a difference between the old P2s and the new P2s too. The P3 is a deep hulled boat, rear fuel tanks, and longer 193″ compared to the 190″ P2. The P3s, at least mine (2003) has the recessed trolling motor tray. The deck layouts are different between the P2 and P3. On the older P3s, be mindful of engine selection. They perform better with 3 liter blocks. I have a 3.1L yammie, and it runs well. I love mine. I would be happy to answer any other questions. Good luck in the search! Bill

Depends on what year P II you look at. I had a 97 P II that had the recessed tray. Most Cats did by 96. The P III was a deep hull with the rounded styling borrowed or evolved from the original Eyra hull. Layout was similar to the Eyra from front deck until you got to the seating area,where the P III still used bench seating like the P II. The biggest difference was the deeper hull and rounded style vs. the older PII, which was retired when P III came out. I had a 91 P2 before my 01 P3 and the real difference in ride is when it gets rough as the P3s deeper vee tends to cut the rough stuff. The P3 under the back deck will not be much different then the P2, and the front deck has a small day box that the P2 did not.

Available flipping deck on the PII might be another consideration. Not sure if the PIII had one. I really like the flipping deck for the 18 and 19 foot boats.Jason Ferbrache – Edmond, OK 1995 Basscat Eyra
