Driving Question…

Hey guys, new to Bass Cat in the last couple months. Ive got an 2002 Pantera III with a 3.0L Merc Optimax 200 HP. I just came from Champion so Im still learning the ways of this boat. I love the ride, and the speed, boat also fishes awesome! To my question, Im running a 25p Fury...I think Im one step to big right now as Im only seeing about 5550-5600 rpm at WOT. One thing Ive noticed between this boat and the Champion is it doesnt like to be completely trimmed to optimize the speed. On my smartcraft gauges it seems to do best between 4.2 and 4.5. Ive ran it up to 71.8mph in a straight line with full tanks of gas and me and my partner(wife). It seems to turn I have to trim it back down a lot, like back down to 1.0 to 1.2 trim before the nose will not hop all around even in a wide turn? I know each boat is different that is why Im asking, if something could possibly be set up wrong or if that is just the nature of the beast! The Champion I had loved trim and I could cut a sharp turn without letting off the throttle or trimming down, however, it would only run about 63 or 64 mph so theres a lot of difference between the two boats.Thanks for helping a newby to the Bass Cat world!

Lots of lift built into the PIII hull. I ran a 24 Fury on mine with aYamaha 200 EFI. I also raised the jack plate an inch or so to make the boat run flatter.

BCB hulls use less trim range and once you learn that area you will maximize performance. The height is what you need to determine once you learn how to get the most from your hull, then you should be setup. Every hull could use these methods of driving with the trim instead of the throttle though the hulls of other companies are not as efficient. You have a really neat rig with the 3 ltr engine and a P3 hull.Enjoy it! BCB

With a BCB, Throttle is power, and trim is speed. Come out the hole, keep power WOT, slowly bump up your trim once the boat has leveled off and picking up speed. When you have the right amount of trim, you will feel the boat lift and get on pad. If you overtrim, you will actually lose speed. Also watch your water pressure. Seat time will help.
