hey guys. iam thinking about a 200 h.o on my next cat. ive always have had a mercury. just looking for a little feed back on the e-tecs tell me what u think of them. the pros and cons if there are any at all. i heard good things just want to hear what you guys have to say. thanks guys.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Havent heard many horror stories, but there arent as many Cats carrying them either. There are a few that have posted over on BBC and seem to have positive comments. I did hear of gearcase issues in the first year or two, but not much lately… Everyone will have positive and negative comments, especially from the Merc guys. I have always run Mercury/Mariner products and have had good results, but I would be open to trying an ETEC next time around. I think ETEC is in the same stages as the early Optimax, but given time could become a solid performer. My only negative is the way they compare ETEC to other outboards…when you listen to what is said on commercials, they are comparing to 4 stroke technology, not DFI for the most part. Still, it is a 3 star rating on CARB scale.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
I am new to the etec. I have 225HO, starts right up. very quiet. very fast. also should add my dealer is 100% evinrude. he wouldnt take a mercury if you gave it to him However both mercury and evinrude have mechanics so its all up to what you like. From the post I have read from the guys above this post their advice is pretty solid!!
Phil may be right for his area or his view. I just bought an ETEC and wouldnt have done anything else. So far very quiet, amazing torque and strong top end. Phil stated: Reasons to stay a Mercury owner. 1. Better fuel economy 2. Better warranty 3. Better resale 4. Better reliability 5. Better dealer/mechanic network 6. Better price 7. Better overall performance Reasons to buy an ETEC. 1. ? Phil, you are a respected person on this board but I believe all of the reasons you stated for a Merc could be argued by both a Yamaha and a ETEC buyer. It all comes down to what each and every person wants out of their boat. For me extreme top end speed is not my deal. You may save (perhaps!) a little gas with your Merc over my ETEC but I will save HUGE on my oil which in the end comes down to dollars per gallon. All of the points you made I can argue. This isnt me saying your wrong and Im right it is me saying Merc can be great for one guy and ETEC can be great for another. For me I am EXTREMELY impressed with my ETEC!
The new 250 HO seems to be quite strong from our early knowledge. The 200 HO is very strong on a Pantera IV model and we have run several 225 models. As for other comments, we leave that to your ability of sifting through the info.
Im happy with my 225HO. It was a pleasure at the OI whenever someone shut off their Merc while waiting for take-off, I could then actually have a conversation and hear my partner (even with my ETEC running). Im very happy performance wise and I think anyone would be. As far as dependability, I dont have a wealth of information to provide a conclusion on the ETEC yet but I have a personal friend that is a Merc / Yamaha dealer and he says he works on multiple Mercs before he gets a Yamaha (in Mercs defense it could be the law of average in play). My BRP dealer was starteled when I brought my ETEC in for service and told me that it was only the 3rd one he had to work on. Talk with a “neutral” service center that works on BRP and others and get their feedback. With Mercury, I would imagine “better warranty” means longer, but this may be out of necessity rather than simply being a carrot for potential buyers (PA- Im not picking on you BTW). There may be arguable points in other categories listed but like BCB stated above, it will take some sifting. My next Cat will be rigged with a Yamaha or ETEC, currently undecided but the ETEC outruns an equal hp Yamaha on the same boat.http://www.justsayhi.com/bb/files/count … r=0&un=BCB OWNERS INVITATIONAL&size=normal&mo=03&da=27&yr=2007″ width=”250″ height=”80″>http://www.justsayhi.com/bb/files/count … r=0&un=BCB OWNERS INVITATIONAL&size=normal&mo=03&da=27&yr=2007″ />http://assets.justsayhi.com/badges/521/ … 57ol3i.jpg” alt=”” style=”display: none;” height=”1″ width=”1″ />
YALL ARE PITIFUL………..SUCKING UP TO OLE PHIL……..JUDD I EXPECTED MORE FROM YOU…..BASKETMAN,,,,,,U SHOULD KNOW BETTER…..SAM,,,,,U MUST NEED SOME BOAT WORK…… ME HOW BOUT THOSE NUMBERS I GAVE YALL……. PHIL TAUGHT ME THAT
Hey Tideman, Where did you learn math like that? I know they did not teach you that at the Capstone!! I cant decipher all that but that damn E-tec sounds fast.
Your a bigger man that 90% of folks out there for that Brannon. Family fights are fine with me when we are all on the same team in the end. You should see how the Swan(n) boys fight everytime one gets to go to the OI and the others dont. Man Im impressed- honestly. An example to others including myself. Not the internet norm. BTW- We all still know PA deserves all the ca-ca he can handle about his biases. Lord you should hear him talk about P-Line, Rapala crankbaits, american rodsmith rods, Lake fork tackle and those motor guide trolling motors that have the backwards pedal. With all of my recent success Ive actually been picked up by the maker of purina dog chow to sit on some of their feed buckets on the bank for my next tournament. Im looking for a bobber sponsor next if anyone has any leads.C.O.D. Jr. III
