Engine mount bolts torque specs.

My buddies 2004 FTD motor mount bolts are getting a little loose and wanted to know the torque specs for these. Also would like to know if these same specs apply for my 2001 Pantera Classic (100% fiberglass), too. Thanks.God Bless, Stephen

We assume you are speaking of the bolts in the transom, If so then just snug then up tightly. The compression of these parts is tough, and getting a true torque spec when compressing transom plate, washers and jackplate is not going to be found often.If you make sure and tighten them securely, and shoot for a feeling of what you think is around 80 to 90 pounds, you should be fine. BCB, does this hold true for boats that have the motor bolted directly to the transom without a jackplate? How often do you recommend checking these bolts? Thanks.

There is not a suggested amount of time to check the bolts. On older units with CMC plates, we would suggest every few trips as some of those would loosen on the side plates. The best is to check them every so often, then sort of gauge your confidence level on your rig. If yours are not vibrating off, then you will have a general idea of when and how much. Those who run rough water would be best advised to check them every trip on the big water.BCB
