engine temp

What is the most common gauge or indicator used on a BCB to monitor engine temp? Simple temp gauge or tied into some other instrument on your console? I am wondering what it would take to monitor engine temp in my 08 Cougar 250 Optimax Pro XS? Any simple installs? Thanks

If you have Smart Craft, it would be in the gauges, if not then the wire is under the dash in the Mercury harness for an analog gauge we believe. It would be the brown (tan) with a blue stripe from memory. BCB

take my current analog gauge and swap just one and combine it with temp and utilize it? Can I mix and Match Smart Craft with Analog? If so which one would you pull and replace to add the temp with it? Thanks

Smart guages have all that info, engine temp comes on mine every time, same guage that shows trim height!!!BAYOU BANDIT

We would suggest a SC1000 Mini Gauge which will enhance your set up, and otherwise you can go analog as everything should be there.

I combine it with something already in the console? Not much room to add much more does anyone have a picture of this gauge I cant find it by go-ogling need to do some searching. Thanks

even though it has analog gauges? If so then wouldnt a MercMonitor replacing my tach be a quick swap out? Any pitfalls to doing this if I choose to? Thanks

You could use that, or a mini gauge. The data cable should not be there for that application. NO pitfalls. BCB

On my 99 jag it did the same and one summer I ad thermostats replaced and it still did it. Do you get an alarm? Is your motor a optimax? I know for a fact it will shut itself down before you totally burn it up. Someone here will help you more than I. Im not trying to still your thread, but I have a 05 200 hp EFI Mercury but when I stand on throttle to come out of hole I have a steady alarm as it peaks to fall over on plane. I replaced water pump impeller Friday cause it had been right at 3 years. Carried it out to day and the same problem. Now I can ease it over on plane and no problems. Idle I have 5 psi and 15 when on plane and just easing around 35-45 mph. I had gasket material in the hose from motor to output on cowling. What should I be looking at? New thermostats, poppet valve? Or could it be water in water fuel separator? Again not trying to jack a thread.

Mine is a 225 efi……I would try the fuel filter first because mine was a different boat when I replaced it….they say change them every season and I dont thing the guy I got it from every changed it

They shouldnt jump around at the same RPM and range. They will move greatly as you adjust the throttle and trim.
