Evinrude 250 ETEC on Puma

I cant account for the E-tec but my Puma 250 Mercury with tournament load 78.7 two days ago. Fury 26 P prop @ 5950 RPMs. Cant wait for winter temps to get here! You have many of the same questions I had. It is hard to beat the awards the Puma and Mercury combo has aquired 7 years of J.D Power & associates awards.

I would ask the guys in Mtn Home about it. They ran one at the dealers meeting. Corky I also saw your other post. I would buy whatever motor your mechanic wants to deal with. It largely comes down to that. You can go on and on about this motor or that one but it all comes down to what you can get fixed the fastest in your neck of the woods. To me its a question of dealer issues first, prices issues second, then warranty issues, fuel economy, etc. The speed thing you can argue all day long. I happen to own an 200 ho evinrude with 275 hours and zero issues but I also am fortunate to have 2 top notch dealers that can handle either product. With 5 years of built in warranty thanks to BCB and dealers picking it up you have to add that price to the blue product(unfortunately) as well to compare them equally.Last edited by clownshoes on September 8th, 2008, 12:59 pm, edited 1 time in total.C.O.D. I agree with Ward the engines cant be that far off I think you sould get what ever you can get worked on the best. I run a Mercury 250 Pro XS on a 2007 Puma and you could not ask for a better motor. I think that if you went with an Evinrude 250HO I think you would be fine to.

Call Tommy Yetts @ Rockwall Marine 972-771-4442, he has ran the 250HO on his rig and has a prostaffer with one on theirs too. He is partial to the Etec and his guys have certifications to work on them all so he can run any of them but his choice is the Etec. So if you arent wanting an Etec then dont call him I think they are all building pretty good motors at this point you just have to pick one your local dealer can work on and what you prefer to run. I prefer the Merc but ran a Yamaha on my 06 and it and the 03 HPDI prior to it were both good motors. They can all throw a bad one but I think all and all they are making some good engines. Sir if you would like some real #s technical and performance I would be glad to help. Our factory demo and a couple of our pro guys all have the 250 ho and it is incredible. That motor has taken even the TOUGHEST doubters and set them back in theie BCB seat! I immensely appreciate the assistance provided on the Mercury 250 Pro XS versus the Evinrude 250 HO. It sounds like they are both great engines. I considered several 2008 used Bass Cat boats, some with Mercurys and some with Evinrudes. I decided to order a 2009 Puma FTD with Mercury 250 Pro XS engine. Again, thank you for all of your assistance and time. This entire Bass Cat family seems to be a fun group to work with. I hope to meet you guys at next the owners tournament next year.
