My 36v ulltrex started cycling power every time I hit the go button after about 2 seconds runtime.
I noticed on my bow battery gauge it was nowhere near 36v. It was random 21v, 27v, etc.
After a few minutes the ulltrex lost all power and my bow battery gauge shows nothing, doesn’t even light up.
All 3 batteries are fresh and show 13.16v each.
What is device pictured, breaker type component? 2 of them I found, both black butttons are pushed in but one looks really bad. Both show 13v on 1 post, 26v on the other. The main breaker for the positive on the trolling motor cable is working.
What are probable suspects for me to replace?
Thanks all!
Replace them. If you have a main breaker, you may not even need those. Those are breakers also. What you see on the outside is also happening on the inside and pretty sure would be your issue. Just wondering if someone upgraded from a 24 volt troller to 36 and added that main breaker but kept those also.
As AP mentioned above, you don’t really need those two “short stop” breakers on the two jumper wires between the three troller batteries. BCB installs them at the factory as standard equipment. I would also replace the main breaker on the positive troller lead with a Blue Seas breaker/shut off rated at 60 amps for your Ultrex if it is still the 50 amp breaker from the factory.
Thanks guys, ordered all 3 devices. I do have a 50a on the main positive line. Could that be why when I troll on max speed for more than a few seconds my ultras would kick off for a few seconds? I can troll on 9 all day, but put it on 10 and run for more than a few seconds and it shuts off.
It’s not likely the breakers if they aren’t tripping. Odds are you will still have pulsing which indicates something else is wrong. The volt gauge on the bow, however, is all supply from the batteries.
It’s a known peculiarity of the Ultrex that if you run it on 10 for some time, it will trip the breaker, even with a 60 amp device which it calls for. On 10, current draw is mid 50 amps. It has been mentioned many times over the years on the electrical forum over on Bass Boat Central. Apparently, somewhere in the manual MK mentions not to do so. You already have discovered that running it on 9 avoids that issue.
While I await the arrival of the parts, I’m pondering taking the 2 short stop 50a units out of the equation. I like to minimize the amount of things that can go wrong.
What are the Pro’s of keeping them in the system? I know Basscat has a reason to put them in, I just don’t know what that is.
