Eyra with 300R?

I know that Rick is seeing some impressive top end numbers with his Eyra and 300R combo but what about the hole shot and mid range performance? Can anyone talk to this? Getting ready to order another Eyra and may put this motor on the back. Thank you Elwood

My vote is for the 300R, banned from BBC so couldn’t reply there, if you do end up getting it I’d like to go for a ride!

The 300 Pro XS is suggested for several reasons. The TorqueMaster gearcase would be the suggestion on the 300R also.

I believe Elwood was interested in the 300R’s performance out the hole and mid range acceleration vs the 250 Proxs. Reasons for the 300 Pro Xs vs the 300R?

I was actually wondering what kind of performance Rick was getting with the 300R on his Eyra. Does he run the SportMaster (SM) or TorqueMaster (TM)? If it was the SM then how was his mid range and hole shot? If he has the TM, how concerned is he going over 85mph with the TM lower unit? I want the R if I go with a 300hp and all of my questions concern the lower unit and the performance if the SM is on the motor. If Rick is not using the SM then how concerned is he with exceeding recommended speeds with the TM lower unit.

Hope this clears up the questions that I have.

Based on the CARB data the 300R makes 20hp more at 750rpm and torque is basically the same, but at 500 rpm higher because of the powerband shift. I imagine the combo of the SM and the shorter intake runners (which is like the difference in a single plane intake vs dual plane if you’re an old school car guy) will make the 300R not be as fast down low as the 300pro XS and TM. Though the 300R should be faster up top if running the SM as I would imagine the TM would be past it’s speed limit, but maybe the extra power is offset by the drag from the larger diameter gearcase? If the 250proxs does low 80s and the 300proxs mid 80s (as it actually only makes 20hp more according to CARB report) which is the limit of the TM, then maybe it’s best choice. My question is is the heavier 300proxs faster than the old 300XS on an eyra? My understanding from thread on scream and fly is the 300XS is about in the middle powerwise between the new 300 V8s.
