fiberglass repair shop recommendation

hit submerged object and have small spider cracks and small gel chips by the jackplate and back of the boat. i want to be sure its nothing structural. this boat must be built like a tank. the motor cowl passed me up and was about 10 yards ahead of the boat. it put me in a hard right and about 15 feet in the trees and stumps. hit one tree almost head on. i thought the motor would be hanging off. i didnt fare as well as the boat. pretty banged up and an ac shoulder separation. after i stopped, thank god for a kill switch, i cranked it up and drove over the stumps and back to the landing and home, then spent the day in the emergency room. im looking for my best bet to get it repaired right since its an 07. i am in the gonzales louisiana area, but ill take it just about anywhere. guess im pretty lucky, first boating accident in over 30 years in a bass boat.

Not sure on where to take your boat for repair, BUT I bet BCB would be interested in seeing the “spider cracks”. Take some photos of the areas in question, in a well lighted area, and email them to BassCat. [url=mailto:service@basscat.com]service@basscat.com[/url]. Give them descriptions of the pictures and the events that happened. They are always studying. That is what keeps them ahead of the competition. The service folks can suggest a shop here, and definitely you would probably be best served by BCB on a repair or direction. The engine your dealer would be able to help. We have loaded the boys with work at Mtn. Home this week, so shoot some digitals and e-mail them the shots. They may suggest any shop, or if it looks bad,they will suggest it be done close to the plant.

ill get pictures. my son will clean it up today and we will be able to see better. i looked again and amazingly the only spiders are on the transom. i can see on the rub rail where i bounced off the trees, but no damage other than tree bark stuck in the rub rail. it may only be gel coat on the transom,, but i want to be sure. you are right, the engine will need some attention also. ill get pictures in. thank you

When Thomas marine was a Cat dealer they recomended Dear Fiberglass in Gonzales, but I never got to use them as they were so busy after the hurricanes. I would call them or the new Cat dealer and find out who they recomend.

Aqua Fiberglass in Brandon, Mississippi, has a reputation of being one of the best fiberglass boat repair places in the south. When I had a boat that was messed up so bad that many thought it could not be fixed, they were able to make it better than new. Even the marine surveyors from Louisiana that I have spoken with have validated their reputation. They are perfectionists and specialize in bass boats. They take great pride in their work. Birmingham Boat Repair has a guy that is as good as I have seen. I have seen boats that slid off the trailer and down the ramp, boats that have hit floating barrels ,boats that have hit stumps/trees, boats involved in traffic accidents, and in every case I have seen, Tony has fixed them to at _least_ back to factory specs. When he finished workin on my pad, a perfect machinists straight edge matched perfectly. And hes great on matching gel-coat by eye. i sent some pictures to bcb and hopefully they can point me in the right direction. amazingly, it may be just cosmetic and just needs gel coat repair. i would have thought this boat would be in pieces. after looking good at the boat you can see the tree bark and wood in the rub rail but not even a stress crack along the rail. thanks all and thanks bcb for designing and building these boats as strong and safe as they are. this boat did an instant 180 and i didnt even get wet. i did get pretty banged up. i had a bcb life jacket on and you can see the marks on my chest and back from impact from the steering wheel and passenger side of the boat so i think the heavy life jacket saved me from more injury. by the way, i somehow ended up holding on to the passenger side handrail so my vote is to keep them on the boats. thats something for all to think about before going to the new style life jackets. im going back to the dr tomorrow and well find out if i need surgery on the shoulder. thanks
