Fish finder / GPS on a budget question!

Id like to update my bow and console sonar / GPS units (currently have a Lowrance X-91 bow and LCX-15MT console)What would yall recommend as a decent upgrade without spending a small fortune?Was thinking about looking for a gently used Lowrance 332c or 520c for the bow and perhaps networking it with another gently used Lowrance HD unit (LCX 38c, 113c, 28C, etc,) on the console.Hey! I dont want to spend more on these electronics than my tow vehicle and boat are worth, plus I have two kids in college at the moment.I want to upgrade, but Im not sure I need SI or Structure Scan until I win the lottery.Prefer Lowrance, though I know H-Bird is making a serious run/comeback in the market!What do you all suggest would be an upgrade for me in this department without breaking the bank?Very interested in your perception/ experiences, and thanks in advance for your insight!Last edited by fishmagnet on February 4th, 2010, 10:59 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Also, Id check boat companies like Bass Cat. This summer I helped a guy buy 2-Humminbird 788c GPSs for $150 less than Cabelas.com…..Now they came in a carboard plain box,no pretty writing, but for a $300 savings???? Give me a call and I can make some calls, if you go the Humminbird route so you dont have to worry so much about WARRANTY, id do a 788 color GPS, with a 728 Black and white, linked for GPS and information, that would be a great upgrade and priced right. Thanks guys, some good sites w/ reasonable prices.Ive also started hunting on BBC and a few other fishing forums Buy/Sell/Trade pages.Are the current Lowrance offerings really the nightmare Ive reading about?Been a loyal Lowrance customer for a long time and hateo to have to drill new mount holes for a HB.

Ill keep you in mind happyhour. It is in fine shape, screen and shell.Still have the box, manual, bracket, gimbel knobs, power cable, etc. No t-ducer, its epoxied to the boat.

520s are hard to beat in a smaller unit… I have LCX- 38 hd units front and rear and love them.. I had a lcx 28 a few years ago and it was very good too.

Ive stumbled upon a few older units for sale, minus a component here or there, and it just doesnt seem to add up.For example, I found a NIB Lowrance LCX28cHD without the GPS puck for $850, sold originally for $1,1199, add a used GPS puck for say $125 = $975 total investment.Couldnt you get a brand NEW Lowrance HD7 or a HB798 for only $200 more?Trying to figure out the long-term value equation here!
