Flipping deck insert installation help (Sabre)

Mods, I accidently posted this in the garage sale instead of the owners forum. Feel free to delete this post.Has has installed a BassCat flipping deck in a Sabre boat (Non FTD)? I ordered one from Basscat and received it today. I know they are supposed to be a tight fit but it looks like it is about 1/4 ince too wide at that back. I didnt have a rubber mallet with me to try and persuade it in. I am wondering if I may need to peel the carpet off of one of the tabs that the bolts will go through?? Mine sits freely in the location without any interference. There are 4 maybe 1/4″ or so nylon spacers that go between the deck insert and the sides of the deck where it mates up. Screws go through the deck insert, the nylon spacers, and into the rod boxes. Have seen more than a couple of these, never have seen one that requires forcing into position however. My boat is not a saber, but there is no carpet where the deck insert goes on mine, making it easy to install. My rod boxes (port and starboard have lids that open outward. With the lids raised, there is nothing but the glass lip with the weather stripping.Not sure where you are seeing carpet interference unless this was a recarpeted boat and someone went overboard on where they stuck carpet (I have seen more than one where that happened).2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200

Thanks Oldtimer, this one sounds identical to yours. Mine came from BassCat with the piece, on the flipping deck, that the bolts go through carpeted. I am sure it is carpeted to protect the finish on the boat where that piece mounts to the area below the rod boxes. I think I will be able to take the carpet off of that piece of the flipping deck and hopefully it will sit in there like it should. Worst case, at least I think, I will take the carpet off both sides and that could give me plenty of room to utilize the nylon spacers that you referred to. I would rather strip the carpet away rather than give that piece the old ball peen massage.I am going to work on it this afternoon.

I have an 08 Sabre, mine went in tight and I did not need the spacers. You will love it when you get it in.

I installed one on my sabre and it was a very tight fit. If I remember right I had to bend it in a little to make it go in. Then just get it good and straight and screw it in.Please change my user name to Firecat

My extension itself is certainly carpeted. but does need the spacers to avoid sideways movement. Might be that over time your carpet will compress and you might need em then. Only complaint I have is that you end up with a tough step up for us older folks. 2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200

I got it mounted this afternoon. I ended up removing the carpet on one of the mounting tabs. I was then able to take a rubber mallet and knock it into place. It turned out looking good and will give me a fair amount more deck space on front while being able to still tuck stuff under the deck and not under foot. Without removing the carpet on one tab I dont think it would have ever been able to be drive it into place, at least without compromising the aluminum tab. All in all I am pleased with how it turned out. Thanks for the advice.

Thanks Redngoo, built this to go in my sons 01 SABRE. More for me than him he wasnt sure it would work. Only thing holds it in place is a 3/4″ aluminum round bar located on the bottom that fits into the floor seat mount and a really snug fit. Told him I would take it out when I wasnt with him. LOL It hasnt been out since the day I put it in. ??? I think its also the dryest box in the boat. BIG MIKE
