From a Cat to a tin boat?? Thoughts?

As far as launching/loading, I dont think you will find much difference. I went from a 17 Alumacraft semi-deepV 96″ beam with a 115 Yamaha to a Classic with 200 Opti. I fish by myself 80% of the time and didnt find one any harder then the other to launch/load by myself. The BCB trailer however is much better built then the EZ Loader and towed much better plus had brakes. I floated both with a rope to launch. Only advantage of tin was if there was no dock, you didnt worry as much if you had to beach the boat. As far as keeping the wife happy, well, its been my experience after 30 years marriage that if its not one thing its another. Soooooooo…………….

Fishing by yourself is one of the main reasons to keep the boat you have. Most of the tin boats dont have the stability of a fiberglass boat. I went from a champion to an express now to a cat. The one time I fell into the water was because the wind was blowing about 10mph and the express boat hit a stump with only the wind pushing it. In the water I went. Just my opinion but I think if most of the people that made the switch are honest they will tell you they regret it. Good luck in your decision

I have a 14 tracker tied up out back. 25 yammie tiller and 82lb mg. / extended deck, recess tray. Little aged and well beat up. I went from a glass boat, to an Xpress H17 w/115. I found the water twice standing on the front deck of the H17 for reasons mentioned. Wind carries them moreso than a glass boat which can affect stability when standing. Excellent boats. Just not my preference. Sold it after 2 years and bought my current Sabre FTD. No comparison as far as the overall experience. Fishing or driving. I fish alone 80+% of the time, and I never found my tin boat to be any easier to load/unload then my Sabre FTD. I fish a number of small lakes with speed restrictions throughout the year, but also fish Millwood and Wright Patman Lake. No contest on the boat I prefer to fish them out of. Cant answer your concerns on gaining room in the Garage. Built a detached carport and moved operations out of the Garage. Good luck with your decision moving forward.

I have fished some of those lakes. Keep the p2. Beaver isnt far, neither is table rock. When you consider she is not gonna thank you more than a day anyway I just dont see doing it for that either. You mistake her opinion for some sort of give and take negotiation.C.O.D. Jr. III

Last year I was tired of being blown around and bounced around in a tin boat. I am now in a Sabre FTD and certainly glad I am. The difference has been eye opening and simply amazing.Dan

I just sold my 2014 rt178 with 75. The ranger rt178 is very stable. Fishes good too. Had a fortex 80 on it and no issues if fishing mostly small waters. It would fish beaver fine too. I did sell it after a year and either going to a glass rig again and fish some bigger lakes and tournaments again or if I decide not too will look at rt188 with 115. Glass fishes better in wind no question. Tin much cheaper and easier to tow. Unload and load glass probably easier because wind blowing trying to load can be difficult. Cost of having the two if smaller lakes is no question the tin. Id suggest ranger rt178 with 70 Yamaha 4 stroke for what u r fishing and u would be real happy and save a lot. If you were still wanting to go fishing sometimes to bigger lakes or tournament sometimes keep the p2. Im looking at a new caracal or used cougar ftd. Waiting to see caracal in person.
