I have a 2017 Cougar FTD. Went to put fuel in the passenger side tank an I noticed the rubber gasket in the cap was hanging off. No big deal I can put some adhesive on it. I put in the nozzle and noticed I couldn't get it down all the way and it wouldn't take any fuel, not even the slowest dribble without backing up. Filled the starboard tank and went fishing. At the ramp when I opened the hatch to flip on the power I noticed fuel on the top of the port tank under the valve. I first thought that maybe the valve went bad and thats why I couldn't fill but when I got home I remembered that I couldn't get the fuel nozzle all the way down so I looked in the opening and found the plastic flapper became disconnected and was blocking the fuel flow. I was able to grab it with needle nose and pull it out so now I guess I can get fuel in the tank again. My main question is, do I have to replace that assembly or is the flapper not that big of a deal. I still have the leak to deal with and my closest dealer is 3 1/2 hours away.
Thank you
That is an EPA diurnal fuel emissions part and we have to say it requires replacing. The decision to replace or not is now yours if you are concerned with being caught without the flapper in place.
