Fulton XLT on my trailer does not lock up to winch up after lock & unlock (bottom) lever is engaged in lock(top) position unless I manually align the tooth by using lock/unlock lever to lock/winch up.
Example, once the boat is on the trailer and hooked up to Fulton, and the lever on the right is pushed up in the lock position, and start turning the winch. However, the teeth will not engage unless it was done manually by hand (by using lock/unlock knob).
Is there a simple solution or should I just replace it? If it needs to be replaced, then do I have to torque the bolts to set lbs or just tighten them? Thanks in advance.
Take the internal spring assembly on the shaft which has the lock tension spring, and use a crew driver, tap the star tension washer towards the spring, This will seat the assembly and few have had to repeat the process. It is much easier and simpler than replacing a winch.
Fulton has been informed of this and we will forward them this post as well.

TomI took a look at my winch and it would be a very simple fix. Didnt know it would be that simple until I took a look and saw how it was attached. I know I had rather slide the latch over instead of removing the winch or even having to drive down to the dealership to have them remove it.
Took the Fulton XLT top cover off and tried to locate “star tension washer towards the spring” per your reply above, but we could not fine any star tension washer or spring…Is there any way you can post a picture here and point this out?…
