Fury Plugs Suggestions

I am starting to open up the new motor for short periods. Im not having much luck getting the boat over 70-72 mph. Sure its a driving lesseon once you can get over 68 routinely in one of these Cougars but even when I get a nice line and push it so it doesnt chine walk. I bought a used 26P Fury (perfect condition) to run on the new 250 Pro XS and I only got one vent plug in the prop. I never thought anything of it, because that always worked best for me with my Tempest Props ont he old motors. Is it possible the extra exhaust gas is having an affect at high RPMs? I was always told it didnt, but venturi affect has got to draw some exhaust gas out through the vents. At 5400 RPM I am running 68+ MPH solid on the GPS, but spinning up to 5700-5800 RPM only nets 70-71. That just doesnt sound right to me. Like I am getting excessive prop slip at higher RPMs or something. I can jerk some plugs out of my old props to try and see what happens, but I thought I would get an opinion from some here too. Mostly I am running at 3.5, but I have marks at 3 and 2 on my jack that I have experimented with also. I can live with it if I have to though. 68 at 5400 is a nice speed for covering water.
