If I use the min length of 23 feet (Cougar + merc + swing tongue) what would the width be ? and how can I determine where in the 23 feet does the corner of the boat hit? because if you think about it the back corners of the boat will likley hit before the engine if turned the wheel to the side. (I could be wrong here thus the help needed)

You will need to sketch out the motor as an extension and the width of the trailer, then accommodate the V shape to the tongue for the boat and frame or body of the boat. BCB

I finally have a garage big enough to angle a 20 footer in and still park one car in there yet I know we will move again. IMO there is more to consider than just garage deminsions. EX: Now I have lots of garage but I have a curve in the driveway, if you have a side load or rear garage do you have enough pad or running room to back her in? Do you have at least 101″ of garage door width? If you are going to twist it youll want more. I was ready to buy one of the little motors that Flyswapper uses to get his in and out of the garage but my Sabre FTD slid right in the nice big new garage with LOTS of room to spare. The front of my Avalanche was just at the edge of a pretty big side load pad. If you are going to twist it make sure to order a pop axle, single axle or budget for some Go-Jacks.Good Luck, I sure wish they would go back to building houses with real garages and nice straight driveways! P.S. I brought several boats home and tried them in the garage BEFORE I bought. That cost me some time and gas but it sure gave me peace of mind when I was signing the paperwork knowing the boat I was getting would fit. Yes to the pop axle 100%. I have a straight in driveaway to garage with a very large door (16feet) and very flat driveway/garage so moving by hand is not a big deal. I think your right though the only true way to find out is borrow a buddies boat for the evening and try it. Problem is Cats are a little rare up here in Toronto Canada and pop alxes even more rare. BCB lets see how good you are… If I have a 90 degree corner and I back the boat up (Merc) will the boat hit the wall before the motor ? tough one I know but thought I would through it out there

Its just plain old geometry. Now if I could just remember them formulas……Im thinking someone at BCB remembers. If the motor is trimmed down the boat will probably hit first, if the motor is in the up/transport position the motor is likely to hit. I had a big old Ski boat I had to use this formula on once, it worked well.britt

I put my puma in a 3 car with my tahoe . The boat basically takes up a 17 wide by 18 6 deep area. If you put it on 45 degree. The Merc on the transom saver and room to walk around the front and both sides.with the tongue swung. The motor and both back corner will almost hit the wall at the same time in a 90 degree corner.

The back of the boat should hit at least 4 out from the corner allowing for an 8 width at the sponsons. This would leave about 22 from the rear of the boat center line to the point of the bow. Draw a rectangle on a piece of paper to the scale of the garage 1/2″=1…draw another rectangle at the same scale based on the measurement of the boat and include a center line, cut this shape out so you can move it around. This will show you where the stern of the boat will contact the wall as well as the bow based on the center line.Garage to scale would be 8 3/4″ ( 17.5) x 9 3/4″ ( 19.5)…boat would be 4″ (8) x 11 1/2″ (23)Do this and you will know if it will fit.Last edited by Olddawg on August 17th, 2010, 4:07 am, edited 1 time in total.

There are only 2 up here in Toronto Canada that I know of and neither have pop axels and only one has a swing toung… Were littered with Rangers in these parts unfortunitly.
