Wanting to upgrade electronics, can someone tell me if the new Garmin Echomap 70dv will fit flush mounted in my console?ThanksHere are some compelling reasons to consider Garmin.Garmin is well established world wide company for both Salt and Freshwater. If you you are summer off shore fisherman they offer affordable Chirp Sonar technology. Also, their Chirp technology is part of their DownVisiona and SideVision transducers for sharper imaging. Arguably, Garmin Downvision offers the best detail along with Raymarines because of Chirp. However, Chirp from my understanding is more 2D (traditional sonar) centric and that offers gamechaning detail with fish arches in the water column including cover (brush piles). It better details the separation of fish in deeper water. Its the future of 2D sonar and 2D sonar is not going anywhere. DV looks cool with x-ray type detail but 2D chirp sonar is optimum when targeting fish. Combine them in split screen together and you have the potential to go to the next level. I say potential because with anything you have to develop and spend time to appreciate the benefit.Garmin units offer WIFI capability via iPod and iPad apps transferring waypoints, routes and tracks. I think Android is now supported too.The 70dv you are considering has 14,000 HD lake maps burned into the unit with 1 contour lines. Additionally, they have additional Lake Vu Mapping Support called Ultra HD. It offers incredible detail and ability to make adjustments like Lake Level Offset and Depth Range Shading. Lake Level Offset is impressive if your lake is supported and has significant winter draw down levels. Example: Make the adjust in your Garmin if the lake is down 10 and these 6 humps during normal pool are now represented as islands 4 above the water. That is way cool for safety and targeting fish. That alone is motivating if your lake is supported with LakeVu MaxDef Ultra HD. Hmm…. My condo on Smith Lake is supported and is going to become my main lake in next couple of years. Also, Lay, Guntersville, Mitchell and Jordan are supported too. I fish these lakes the most and having Ultra HD mapping support is compelling for me. You will have to evaluate that on the lakes you fish. YOu can goto Garmins website to see if they are supported. However, a major bonus still to have LakeVu HD 14,000 lakes support burned into the 70dv. Depth Range Shading is another way cool mapping feature. You can target a depth zone lets say at 4-8 and your Garmin will color code that contour range on your map. These two features alone if your lakes are supported offer mapping benefits beyond current Navionic mapping and rivals Humminbirds LakeMaster mapping.Garmin offers PC/Mac support with their app called Map Manager. You can dowload maps from you 70dv to a SD card load them into Map manager on your Mac or PC and do lake planning then transfer the waypoints to your 70dv when you go to the lake. Garmins mapping has tremendous potential.Lots more features like NMEA2k support and touch screen. Nuff said….. IMO thats a lot of meat on the bone for your consideration.I have done a good bit of research recently on Garmin units and their inland lakes mapping. IMO you will not be disappointed with their offerings. I am impressed enough to buy if I was in your current position to change. Also, there are lots of good options out there with Lowrance, Humminbird, Garmin, Simrad and Raymarine. Good luck to you.Hope this helps, Fly
Thanks Flyswatter, I am completely sold on the new Garmin line of products. I currently have the echomap 50s on my trolling motor. The sonar on these units are alot better than anything Humminbird or Lowrance has out today. My only concern is the size. I like the Garmin 820xs but I do not think it will fit on the space on my console. Thats why I was asking if anyone knows if the Echomap 70dv will fit. Its size is 9″ x 5.6″.Thanks.

After researching and finding out the Ultra HD and HD Map level support for my Alabama Lakes and Kentucky Lake Im pretty much sold on Garmin too. N2k is added bonus for my engine data compulsive personality issues. LOL…. If it fits I got to research what a good price will be for my HDS8 Gen2 and LSS1 Structure Scan. To Be Continued……
Tom you get ready to sell that HDS 8 & LSS 1 let me know what you want. I might be interested in it if I ever get a Boat Dan

Can anyone answer the mans question?
Hooter wrote:Can anyone answer the mans question? The 70DV is not bigger then HBs 997 and that will flush mount fit on the 07 Console just fine. I had the same style console on my 2010 PIV and I had a Humminbird 997 installed with no issues. The HB 997 foot print larger then Garmins 70DV IMOH. I saw them both at BPS earlier this week. Also, Sherm makes Electronics attachment for BassCat Puma style consoles and that device will hold up to a 10″ Humminbird. Hope that helps. Fly
One more thing…. Here you go measurement for the Echo 70dv.9″ x 5.6″ x 2.4″
