Garmin LVS34 transducer scratches

Well my lvs34 transducer found something submerged and scratched the heck out of it. Am I sol and need to buy a new +$1k transducer or can I repair (wet sand out possibly??) image quality doesn’t appear to be bad but I just installed the unit so I wouldn’t really know.

I have seen a few with weird scratches (almost looks like gelcoat crazing on them) and they claim the transducer has never seen bottom. they still work fine so the people I know just leave them as is.
