Gas Gauge Not Accurate on My Classic

Im new to BCB and just got a 07 Classic with the 200 Opti which I assume you have too. My guage doesnt go all the way to full either. But it isnt unusual on boats for the gauges not to be on the button. My old boat (not BCB) went way past full. Anyway, the Opti doesnt use much gas. I fished for two days and stopped to fill up because the gauge hadnt moved. It only took 4 1/2 gallons and that was with gas in the neck. I think if you run it more the gauge will move. Mine was lower when I bought it and when I filled it the first time the gauge went to just below full. Ive put gas in it twice with the same result. It just sips gas. A very good thing. PS – So far Ive been running 89 with 10% ethanol. I may switch to 87 but with the milage Im getting with the 89 it may not be worth it.Brian

I notice I show more fuel when in the water than when on the trailer. I would like to get input from someone that put 30 gallons or so in one of the 33 gallon tanks, just for my peace of mind.

Gang, We have pressed more than 30 gallons in many of those tanks. The sending units are WEMA sending units, and they are more accurate than probably the gauge. We suspect it is a gauge, and if they are off a replacement is the only option. You may check with Service on a replacement gauge to see if it is more accurate. Once you plug it in, the wand should measure differently if it is the gauge, then you can have it installed. Testing it first before the install. These are Mercury Parts if they are either analog or digital on a Mercury. The Yamahas are Yamaha and the BRP are BRP on most everything. The Carb Yamaha 150 setups are all Mercury analog. They will not use other systems. We dont know why you can see the fuel level. Granted it is not easy to see it through the window, though with a light or sunshine it is easier. We see them all the time and that should be the front wall of the tank you are looking at. The fuel coloration could be a factor, and one gentleman who was a gasoline distributor dyed his fuel some. Though we dont know what he used. Eventually the tank walls will absorb the fuel dye and become less transparent no matter the visibility. The tanks will color in time and you will loose sight. The Smart Craft systems are much better for accuracy than analog, as they can be calibrated. We hope this helps. BCB

1. The gauge had been reading fine until I filled it completely–gas was running back out of the filler tube, so I know it was full. Since getting it that full, Ive had the issue with the gauge reading.2. Yes, the 200hp Opti is fuel efficient, but I have been running the boat quite a bit since filling it up (end of April), and at WOT more than once, and the gauge has not moved. It would move previously, and as I ran the boat and burned gas it would drop.3. This is a new rig, purchased this past March 2010, so I guess Ill call service and get a new gauge to install.4. Seriously, I can not see anything thru that peep hole, and my primary color is white this time; we had the peep hole on a Candy Apple Red Puma, and it was the same for my poor old eyes…

Gary, You could drop by Adrians and have him take a look at it. Though you probably could pop a gauge in there easily (easier) by yourself.
