Gas problems

I am having problems keeping my high compression v-8 (IMP muscle boat) happy. It does not like the new blend of fuels. I started having problems last year while racing or running hard. I am sure guys with old muscle cars are having the same problem.Shelf life is three months (from when?) and the new fuel is not intended for open-vent carburated systems.I had some gas tested and the 92 octane gas tested 55.Does anyone know of a fuel additive to put power back into gasoline?Keep an eye on your EFIs…Tim

A race car engine builder from NASCAR told me that if additives were necessary they would be using them in their race cars today. I use BP brand my 225 HP Johnson and it runs just great. From what is my understanding the 90 day shelf life of the current grades of fuel is from the time you put it into your tank.Ray

You can always visit your local drag strip. They will have racing fuel available (at a price of course). Octane can be 106 and up. Or you can visit your local airport and buy avgas at 120+ octane. That will handle any reasonable compression ratio you will likely use. 2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200

I used KLOTZ when I had to use somthing. Don”t know if you had a juice button, but the rubber seats in the solenoids would swell when using KLOTZ after a week or so.

I ran aviation fuel in my 62 Galaxie because it would ping severly on 92 stuff. My compression was 11:1 at that time. I replaced the cam with a higher lift and duration to lower the dynamic compression. It runs better and will run on pump gas. My suggestion for you would be to determine your current compression and contact a cam manufacturer for a cam that would work for your application. There are 5-600 hp cars out there that run fine on pump gas and you should be able to make yours do the same….
